How Disgusting Are Big Corporations?

Back to your bunker. I get out plenty.
I don't believe you.
You are a conspiracy nut and believe every word uttered by the biggest liar ever in office and whatever his people say.
You should wonder about that because it is about you in the end.
Inversion fallacy. It is YOU listening to the liar, namely Schiff.
The investigation has had many people interviewed and they are nearly as one about Trump's lying and weaseling in Ukraine.
Lies again from Schiff.
This is no normal presidency.
Good.
We expected much more from previous presidents.
But none came through like Trump did.
Will our wanting someone with dignity and class
Why?
who does not lie
Schiff again.
ever come back.or has the presidency been cheapened and debased forever?
It has not been debased. It has been restored.

Hi Flash,
Not exclusively true. Cuba and China both have free market systems in place alongside their socialism.
True. Free markets exist even in the most oppressive of nations. It is immortal, you can't kill it, even if you drive it underground.
Most Americans do not identify as Democrats or Republicans. Most Americans say they are members of neither party. We are roughly 30% Dem, 30% Rep, and 40% Independent.
Argument from randU fallacy. You're just making up numbers.

Hi Flash,
The thing that most people get wrong is believing we have to choose between capitalism and socialism.
Where is it written or commanded that such a choice must be made?
The two are mutually exclusive of each other.
Virtually every nation on Earth has a combination of the two.
True. All nations have socialist elements as well as capitalist elements. Only capitalism can create wealth. Socialism can only exist by stealing wealth.
The trick is to get the balance correct.
There is no 'balance'. This is just a buzzword used to justify socialism.
We will forever be hopeless to solve a problem if we can't even properly identify it.
The problem is socialism. The problem is government trying to implement it.

The English have been contacted by Trumpies wanting them to do as the Ukraine was asked. They were shocked to find Trump wanted a way to savage the American intelligence. I suppose you like that too.

sounds good. deep state is guilty of treason.

Have you noticed changes in fast food?
Yes. There is a lot wider variety of fast food. Thanks, capitalism! :good4u:
It used to be that you could get a burger for one price, and then add cheese if you like, for an extra upcharge. Fair enough. Seems reasonable, right?
You still can. Just go to a restaurant that serves this way.
Well, get ready for greed based fast food.

Now the cheese is included and the price is already higher. And if you want the item without cheese, no discount. You pay for it whether you want it or not.
McDonalds has always included the cheese unless you ask for no cheese.
Not all restaurants are doing this, but this is the new greedy corporation trick, and it is catching on.
No trick. Some offer the choice, others default to having cheese. Big deal.
If we don't care, they will all be doing it soon enough.
Nope. You can easily go across the street and eat at the other place that offers the choices you want.
All we can do is identify the restaurants which do this and stop shopping there. That is the only thing they care about.
Fine. Don't eat at McDonalds. Eat at someplace else. No one is forcing you to eat at McDonalds. You might try Wendy's or Fatburger. They both offer the choices you seem to want.

I also wonder if that is really cheese or not.
It is really cheese.
When you buy real cheese at a grocery store and put it on a burger it tastes different than the 'cheese' at a fast food restaurant.
Use American cheese, not cheddar cheese. I thought you didn't like cheese on your burger.
One time, I was on a business trip. I had what I thought was a cool idea. I went to a mid grade sit-down restaurant for dinner and got a salad bar to go deal. That's where they give you a styrofoam clam shell and you can load it up at the salad bar and pay a set price. OK, fine. I did that and made a meal of it. I was also thinking ahead and got some extra 'cheese.' It was the shredded cheese you can sprinkle on your salad. I wanted some cheese so I could use it the next morning at the hotel 'free' breakfast that you pay for in the price of the hotel. It's a trick I have often used, much to the envy of other hotel patrons at the breakfast tables as they look over and see my 'scrambled eggs' with bits of steak, salza, peppers and things I have saved from a meal the night before in the hotel room fridge.
So you pilfer cheese from a salad bar. Gotit.
OK, so I took some of this 'cheese' and tried to use it on the 'scrambled eggs' the next morning.
It was disgusting. It didn't taste like cheese at all, and it hardly melted in the micro-nuke.
Are you sure they were eggs? :D
Not everything that looks like cheese is really cheese.
What a cheesy trick!
They are selling something that looks like food but it probably has no nutritional value at all.
Most likely your cheese is dry. It won't melt in a nuke very well if it's dry.

I don't think anybody says we have to choose between them. One of the big problems is that both liberals and conservatives now use the term "socialism" to describe social welfare systems. Even Denmark, who Sanders holds up as a model, says it is not socialist.

Social welfare systems are socialism. You couldn't call it anything else.

Hi Flash,
I get that constantly from conservatives. I argue for common sense government programs to help the disadvantaged and they call it socialism and then they tout the merits of capitalism as an alternative as if we have to choose between the two. The problem with that kind of thinking is that capitalism has no obligation to promote the general welfare but government DOES.
A business that does not satisfy its customers won't be around for long! Yes, every successful business is promoting the general welfare.

China is capitalistic and people can move from job to job. They are taking great strides to improve the environment and elevating the quality of life. NK is a dictatorship. Cuba is too but based in socialism.

Nope. China is primarily socialism. The government owns and/or operates most every industry in China. China is currently an oligarchy. NK is a dictatorship based on socialism. Cuba is a dictatorship based on socialism.

There is nothing about communism that doesn't allow people to move from job to job. I agree China is making steady progress toward more private ownership and free market, but the majority is still state owned or the state owns a large share.

"China is home to 109 corporations listed on the Fortune Global 500 - but only 15% of those are privately owned."

Clearly, the private sector is much more successful.

Hi Flash,

I think the last one is going a bit too far.

" If Trump proposed Medicare for all conservatives would support it and liberals would oppose it."

While it is difficult to even picture Trump backing something for the disadvantaged, those who favor such programs would continue to favor them if Trump capitulated.

Yes, it is an exaggeration; although most liberals opposed his health care plan that was killed in the Senate. It was basically Obamacare light.

I don't think it is too much of an exaggeration to say liberals are not happy to see gains in the stock market or job growth. Partisans don't want to see the other party doing anything well.

Social welfare systems are socialism. You couldn't call it anything else.

It is called liberalism. Medicare and Medicaid are social welfare programs in a healthcare system that is largely privately owned but with a lot of government regulation. Ownership is socialism (VA) and regulation is liberalism.

Hello Flash,

Yes, it is an exaggeration; although most liberals opposed his health care plan that was killed in the Senate. It was basically Obamacare light.

That's a pretty softball treatment of a bill that basically killed Obamacare, to call it Obamacare light.

I don't think it is too much of an exaggeration to say liberals are not happy to see gains in the stock market or job growth. Partisans don't want to see the other party doing anything well.

I am all for positive growth but a) I don't trust this growth as healthy and sustainable, and b) It's wracking up way too much debt. It's on borrowed money and time. We had our fling, now it's tapering off.

And one of the reasons for stock growth has nothing to do with new jobs and expansion. Nothing real and lasting. It is because of stock buy backs. A short term stock boost. The consumer market is tapped out. There is no potential market to expand into. The consumer class doesn't have the money to spend on anything else because wages have not grown on a commensurate basis with stocks. We're stuck.

this is the whole economy though.

Greedy Corporation Trick number 4733:
Not a trick.

Have you noticed changes in fast food?
Yes.

It used to be that you could get a burger for one price, and then add cheese if you like, for an extra upcharge. Fair enough. Seems reasonable, right?
It is still this way, depending on where you go. Some places offer hamburgers separate from cheeseburgers, and other places just offer cheeseburgers. Go to the place which offers their food the way that you wish it to be offered.

Well, get ready for greed based fast food.
Oh dear...

Now the cheese is included and the price is already higher. And if you want the item without cheese, no discount. You pay for it whether you want it or not.
No change here. Places have always offered hamburgers in different ways. Go to the places which offer them how you want them. Nobody is forcing you to go to places which only offer cheeseburgers.

Not all restaurants are doing this, but this is the new greedy corporation trick, and it is catching on.
Precisely, so GO. TO. THE. ONES. WHICH. ARE. NOT. DOING. THIS. IF. YOU. DON'T. LIKE. THIS. You have options. You are not being forced to buy cheeseburgers at the same price as hamburgers. You can go elsewhere where they offer hamburgers separate from cheeseburgers.

If we don't care, they will all be doing it soon enough.
No, they won't.

All we can do is identify the restaurants which do this and stop shopping there. That is the only thing they care about.
Good. Shop wherever you want. Nobody is stopping you.

I also wonder if that is really cheese or not.
It is cheese. Maybe not as tasty as other cheeses, but it is cheese all the same.

When you buy real cheese at a grocery store and put it on a burger it tastes different than the 'cheese' at a fast food restaurant.
Yeah, and when you buy cheese from a local cheese factory's store, it tastes different than the cheese at a grocery store (unless you are buying that same cheese from the grocery store). Different brands of cheese will taste differently. Different types of cheese will taste differently. That doesn't mean that one is cheese and the other isn't. I thought you didn't like cheese on your hamburgers...??

One time, I was on a business trip. I had what I thought was a cool idea. I went to a mid grade sit-down restaurant for dinner and got a salad bar to go deal. So you stole cheese from a salad bar, put it on some eggs (were they "real" eggs?? ;)), and bitched about the dry cheese that you stole from the salad bar because it apparently wasn't "real" cheese?? ... Interesting...

Greedy Corporation Trick number 4734:
Not a trick.

Not a trick. It is cheese. How do you know that your eggs were "real" eggs? ;) Maybe it was the eggs and not the cheese?? Them DAMN corporations... :palm:

Fascism is socialism. It is just a step on the road to communism. The government doesn't have to own a business. They can simply own the operation of a private business. It is the same: socialism.
