To the left, general welfare means "if I don't want to earn it, someone I think has more than they need should be forced to pay for it". What they propose is nothing more than claiming that the poorer you are, the more rights you have to someone else's money.

It may be, but the Constitution doesn't recognize it as general welfare authorized for action by a federal government program. However, it does recognize it as a power of the several states and the people to deal with. (see the Constitution)
The general welfare as authorized by the Constitution as a power of the federal government are solely only those things enumerated in article one, section eight of the Constitution or other powers authorized to the feds by amendments to the Constitution. (see a copy of the Constitution) read it and be enlightened!

It allowed slavery? Hardly the truth. Slavery existed because the "majority" of the citizens wanted slavery to exist....thus representative common law was legislated that made slavery legal. In a free republic it could be no other way. This nation was founded upon a universal truth, liberty, freedom and free speech come from a higher ascending authority other than mankind....ALL PEOPLE are CREATED EQUAL with certain unalienable rights, among them life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. That truth existed when this nation was founded.....truth does not evolve, societies evolve. Again...slavery existed because the majority of the states/people wanted it to exist. It ceased to exist when the activity of flesh peddling was finally realized to be immoral....and the laws (the rule of law) reflected that societal evolution. The constitution is a living breathing document that was constructed to change with society...….in a predetermined format...….super majority amendment, not through the sound of a judges gavel (legislation from the bench)….the constitution DEMANDS that the people remain in the loop through representation.

This is a Constitutional Republic.....of course the very purpose of a Central Government was to help the states accomplish what they were incapable of accomplishing on their own. The very tenet of the Constitution was to "regulate" interstate trade an commerce to make "fair trade" possible between the states, along with establishing the infrastructure that made fair trade possible with no one state having an unfair advantage over another. Article one, section eight. The other purpose of a Central Government? A standing military is always the first to dip its beak in any form of collected taxes....in order to protect ALL THE STATES from foreign and domestic aggression. The very reason that the US has prospered as a Capitalistic Society....it has and maintains the biggest badassed Military on earth when compared to the shit holes that the US had to rescue from the grip of left wing socialism and its 100,000,000 shallow unmarked graves in its quest for SOCIAL JUSTICE. The US saved these assholes from extinction on more than one occasion in the 20th century alone.
