If we never had democracy, does that mean our votes never counted?

you can explain how our electoral system works to lib'ruls ten thousand times and they still won't get it......I hope that never changes.....

America has called itself a democracy since the beginning. Madison called it that. We recognize that can be defined away. Republicans do that and think the Dems do not understand it. We do not have a majority rule presidential election. That is sad and curable. But rightys will fight ending the electoral college.

This thread is about the type of democracy we have in America. Into The Grave keep repeating that America was never a democracy. We know that it was never a pure or direct democracy. It's just dumb.

/shrugs.......it works 100% the way it was intended to work for 250 years........you just haven't figured out how to campaign within its structure.........you have to actually appeal to voters in more than two states......I know that is hard for you to understand.......and I like it that way......

/shrugs.....only if you think your favorite flavor of democracy is superior......that is actually irrelevant........what is relevant is that the way our system works is obvious but lib'ruls refuse to work within the system that we have.......they prefer to lose and whine about it instead of learning how to win WITH it.......
 
I'd get rid of the states.

Then the intelligent urban people would have the power that their numbers should have.

Out system is cracker-friendly enough to have turned our republic into a complete dumpster fire. And that's exactly what it is right now.

Yeah it has been working since 1776. We have been electing our representatives that we trust to run our country. But right now the Electoral College is outdated.

no.....it still works as well as it did in 1784........it creates a balance between population and statehood.......the government is controlled equally by both........two votes per state and one vote for equal portions of population......each with equal power.......Wyoming gets two votes plus one for the units of population it has......California gets two votes plus one for each unit of population it has......you only prefer a system that allows California to force its will on Wyoming.......just as you probably would once have favored a system that allowed Virginia to force its will over New Hampshire.........

This is a surprisingly good explanation of why our system completely sucks, even though it wasn't intended to be such an explanation.
