In 1959 Socialist Hero Fidel Castro promised Free Elections within a year

Its asinine...In fact, most of the Cold War was.. self inflicted fear mongering.

I can't imagine a more ignorant or brain dead comments. How old are you; four? STFU, seriously.

Tell that to the thousands who died trying to escape from East Germany to the West fucking moron.

Trump knows the value of having a terrible enemy .. so did Hitler and the Ayatollahs and Bibi Netanyahu.. Its either us or THEM.

Another painfully moronic commentary.

East Germany was NOT a threat to the US, nor was communism. You just like histronics.

History of Cuba......

By mid-19th century Cuba provided about a third of the world's sugar, and U.S. investors began to make moves on the island. Soon the sugar industry was under their control.

"From the beginning," wrote Guerra y Sánchez, "the sugar mills were extended protection against foreclosure for debt, an extremely important privilege that was considered an indispensable aid to this new industry.

For the planting of cane, the Havana Cabildo itself ceded lands, within a radius of eight leagues, that had been reserved for growing food crops. Thus, the first sugar mills were set up very close to the municipal limits and were owned by the wealthiest and most influential colonists."

In the United Nations, Cuba began to stand with Communist nations against the U.S.; in Cuba, the ruling regime encouraged anti-U.S. sentiments; in early 1960, the U.S.S.R. instituted a trade-and-aid deal with Cuba; U.S. sugar producers pushed for the nation to stop buying sugar from Cuba; Castro accused the U.S. of sabotaging a ship that blew up in Havana’s harbor.

The details of changes in Cuba and the U.S. reaction to those developments are complicated and often conflicting, but suffice it to say that TIME called that period a “rapidly deteriorating situation that sees Cuban-American relations reach a new low each day.”

Eventually, in late October of 1960, the U.S. imposed a strict embargo barring two-thirds of American imports from Cuba, which before then had been buying a whopping 70% of its imports from the United States.

As the two nations sparred over economics, Ambassador Bonsal was recalled from Cuba, after which point both embassies — Cuba’s in D.C. and America’s in Havana — were left to be headed by chargés, which meant, TIME pointed out, that “diplomacy between the two nations will become as difficult as commerce.”

That's my point,we backed Castro to get Batista and the Mafia, out of Cuba, then he double crossed us

That is why many Cubans, including the father of Ted Cruz, left Cuba. They believed Castro betrayed the revolution by executing perceived enemies, cracking down on any civil liberties, nationalization....

The US backed Batista.

Batista was just one of the many US right wing sponsored dictators throughout Latin America and the rest of the world. The reason for this is that the US needed someone in power in those countries that would prevent any communist takeover, and to effectively neutralize any communist or socialist movement in said countries.

Cuba was America's playground.
