In 1959 Socialist Hero Fidel Castro promised Free Elections within a year

North Korean wasn't a threat to the U.S., but Democrat Truman still sent troops to Korea.

Vietnam wasn't a threat to the U.S. when Democrat Kennedy and Democrat LBJ sent our soldier there.

You can spit facts all you like, but as usual, you have no wisdom and no line of logic to follow :palm:

When did we send troops against East Germany?

Zero logic :palm:

When Cuba allowed the USSR to park nukes on the island aimed at the U.S., JFK and Americans certainly saw it as a threat.

The Soviets bought the whole Cuban sugar crop for decades.. after our Sugar Beet Lobby won against Cuba. We drove Cuba into the arms of the Soviets.

Batista was our crook and he killed thousands of Cubans.

So nukes 90 miles off our coast wasn't a threat to the U.S..

Zero logic. Zero wisdom :palm:

I know, and to the only nation to ever use them, and on civilian populations, and which then expects to be able to prance across the globe deciding who will and who will not have them.

Zero logic. Zero wisdom :palm:

We were acting in our own national interest--we were not trying to be fair. On the other hand, it is easy to understand Cuba's concern to defend themselves since the U. S. attacked them and sought to assassinate Castro.

The Cold War caused the US to do a lot of stupid things.. like try to assassinate the Mossadeegh.

The US backed Batista.

Batista was just one of the many US right wing sponsored dictators throughout Latin America and the rest of the world. The reason for this is that the US needed someone in power in those countries that would prevent any communist takeover, and to effectively neutralize any communist or socialist movement in said countries.

Cuba was America's playground.

Corporate America backed Batista, the Government wanted the Mafia puppet out

At that point that President Eisenhower ordered Director Allen Dulles of the CIA to devise the means to get rid of Castro’s regime in which Washington’s “hand would not show.” Agents attached to the US embassy in Havana contacted Catholic and other youth groups who objected to Fidel’s communist friends. They received airline tickets to leave the country and salaries to train as soldiers in Guatemala. Fidel had spies in Miami and Central America sending him progress reports on the émigré brigade in training. Now he had Eisenhower’s diplomats on the defensive. They had to deny Castro’s accusations about an upcoming CIA invasion.

In the meantime, Castro announced plans to socialize the economy, a project that Che Guevara headed up. What was the White House to do? The 1960 election had swung into full gear. The Democratic challenger in the first presidential debates famously said that he was not the vice-president who presided over the communist takeover of the island just 90 miles offshore from Key West. Eisenhower responded with toughness. He lowered the amount of sugar the United States imported from Cuba, and Fidel seized upon this provocation to nationalize the remaining US-owned properties, especially the sugar refineries.

Your time line is off,Castro was already in power, with the facts you state,it's how Batista lost poor, and how Castro got power is the issue.

Only if you define "defend" ... as "destroy" the United States.

The only way nukes become a defense, is if you announce you have them. Yet, Castro and Kruchev kept denying they wanted or had nukes in Cuba.

You would not want missiles in your country if that country had previously attacked you? Neither Cuba or the Soviet Union would have been stupid enough to launch missiles against the U. S. because they know they would both be destroyed. It was just a way to win support from Cuba.

Nope, as you stated, it is a stupid idea.
And, do you think Castro had the launch and arming codes or did the Ruskies retain them?

Castro should have asked for anti-aircraft guns and minelayer ships.
