In Trump's America "Christian" is no longer a religious faith

Conservatives reject Christianity Today's position on impeachment, because it's about power, not morality or faith

Even amid the holiday pressures to turn away from the news cycle, it was enough to capture public attention: On Thursday, the day after the House formally impeached Donald Trump, Christianity Today, the flagship publication of evangelical America, published an opinion piece by editor in chief Mark Galli, arguing that Trump should be removed from office. In an essay that bends over backward to accommodate Republican talking points, Galli nonetheless argued that Trump is "a near perfect example of a human being who is morally lost and confused" and begs evangelicals to consider "what an unbelieving world will say if you continue to brush off Mr. Trump’s immoral words and behavior."

Galli, however, is under no illusions that his speaking out will move the needle with white evangelicals. He told CNN, "I don't have any imaginations that my editorial is going to shift their views on this matter."

Sure enough, a group of 177 evangelical leaders — led by Liberty University's head Jerry Falwell Jr., recently in the news for "accidentally" emailing revealing photos of his wife to multiple people and being photographed drinking and dancing in a nightclub, behavior forbidden to his students — released a letter denouncing Galli and complaining that he "questioned the spiritual integrity and Christian witness of tens-of-millions of believers."

Not that the Christian right had much morality to abandon in the first place, as anyone who lived through the George W. Bush years can attest. Trump has simply revealed the large majority of white evangelical Christians for who they are: Not people motivated by sincere faith, but people who see "Christian" primarily as an identity marker that accompanies being white, a disdain for urban or metropolitan areas, and their self-identification as "conservative." All of which is used to justify their belief they and members of their tribe are the only legitimate Americans, and deserve to hold and wield a vastly disproportionate share of political power.

Shortly after the re-election of President Barack Obama in 2012, the conservative Christian Coalition sent an email to its members. It included a photo taken in 1942 of a white Christian family praying at the dinner table, patriarch seated at the head.

The note below the photo read: “We will soon be celebrating the 400th anniversary of the first Thanksgiving and God has still not withheld his blessings upon this nation, although we now richly deserve such condemnation. We have a lot to give thanks for, but we also need to pray to our Heavenly Father and ask Him to protect us from those enemies, outside and within, who want to see America destroyed.”

According to Robert P. Jones, the founder and CEO of Public Religion Research Institute, the note’s “apocalyptic ring” stems from the anxiety, fear, and anger of some conservative white Christians who he says have, in the space of a decade, moved from the mainstream to the minority in America. In a conversation Wednesday evening at Harvard Divinity School with journalist and political analyst E.J. Dionne, Jones laid out the data behind his claims, collected in his recent book “The End of White Christian America.”

And who do his supporters mostly act like- Church Folk or Some Hate Group like the Nazis?

Be sure to be honest!

Far too late for that better never than late patriot act party where Rehnquist's immaculate drug conception ignorance to confirm a fabricated misnomer of a US Army Vet being Islam according to lynching enforcement stupidity certainly got those "man is God" second coming Christiananality pedophilia national religion culmination from 9/11 standing for Muslim "death to the infidels" flying carpet terrorists.

Here we go again.....its time for the "ISM's" attack, right....err....left on schedule.

PROPAGANDA: Information that is spread as factual void of any objective evidence in order to promote a political CAUSE.

Truth: This nation was founded upon a Judeo/Christian "PHIOLOSPHY"......but allows religious freedom void of a state dictated required religion. Strange that leftists are always attempting to INSERT religion when it suits their propaganda.

How can you be against something that does not exist....as per your projections? Atheism is simply a Latin term meaning AGAINST DEITY. If there is no such thing as deity, why must you declare you are against this non-existent entity? A true atheist would simply say nothing. There is no such thing as a true atheist....you omitted the most important ability of mankind. A mouth that can speak. I wonder why? You were quick to include ears and eyes (all animals have eyes and ears)…..but you omitted the ability of verbal communications to the point that man is the only creature in existence that often TALKS about his/her own MORTALITY. No other animal on earth....makes and plans for a future through verbal communications. Animals live day by day by instinct. Where did this ability to determine MORALITY come from? Morality does not exist in nature. Animals have no concept of death.....they know only life. When you are dead you know nothing. Only man plans for his/her own death.

There are TRUTHS that are PRIMA FACIE....and stand as truth until objective evidence proves that circumstantial truth to be wrong. People are imprisoned each and every day in the US under the logic of PRIMA FACIE truths.

For atheism to be a fact.....YOU MUST present the objective evidence that proves that GOD does not exist. Until you do....you are simply practicing another form of faith based religion.....Secular Humanism.

Actually, "Atheist" means "godless" and refers to the lack of belief in a god. Atheists aren't against a god, they just lack the belief. Not sure there you got AGAINST DEITY from. I'm guessing a meme on Facebook.

Source?

Because I was talking about how I learned all religions are political. I learned that through seeing and listening, through observing, not through talking.

Where did this ability to determine MORALITY come from? Morality does not exist in nature.

Basic empathy, which most humans have. If you don't have basic empathy, then you're likely mentally ill, as this is a common trait in serial killers.

You just described Trump.

Yes, and they can often play tricks on the mind and confuse it, as is often demonstrated by the posts on this forum.

Bottom line; If what I believe is correct, I'll go to a better place and look down on you. If I'm wrong, I'm still no worse off than you.

Takes too much to prove pseudoscience of a Christian Nation isn't under God as PRIMA FACIE truths of fabricated misnomers & immaculate conceptions used in mass neurosis of fascism to incite mass psychosis of fascism for the cross to be higher than the flag seems to be "man is God" law of the land lynching enforcement.

Actually, the god of the Bible acts in a way that is totally beyond the logic of humans. For all we know, he sends believers to Hell and lets Atheists into Heaven. Maybe he is real and I'll be looking down on you.

Holy moley...RB is Pascal!

Who'da thunk it?

If the god of the Bible actually punishes people by sending them to Hell for ETERNAL punishment...people who pretend they worship and love the god should stop the pretense...and go with "abject fear of the god" instead. There is no love or adoration involved with a god like that.

Come to think of it...ETERNAL LIFE would be a kind of Hell in itself. Especially one devoted to sitting around worshiping what is essentially a serial killer.
