Is Newt Right?

Not wishful thinking but a commentary based on a solid track record and historical evidence.

Your last statement is true, and it's also true that the Democrats and party in power tend to be the ones that don't show up for mid-terms. This is not new and you can go back decades to read articles that say that then and ones that are saying it now.

And so will Blue states. So?

There's little to zero chance it will pass the Senate even if the Democrats take the shotgun in the foot of eliminating the filibuster. Aside from that, have you actually read what's in this POS legislation? It is one giant unconstitutional piece of dubious legality legislation. For example, on page 51 (yes, I read it yesterday) of the bill it allows anyone sixteen (16) years old to register to vote when they get their driver's license. Now, the legal voting age is 18 so how you can register to vote and not be eligible to vote is a dilemma that will no doubt end up at the Supreme Court, and doesn't bode well for the bill or Democrats. Just to hammer this home, on pages 28 and 29, on-line and mail-in registration to vote are made legal along with the use of an e-signature. You know, one of those programs where you choose a signature close to your actual one, but it isn't actually your signature. Talk about a major source of potential fraud!

Given the actual history of mid-term elections since the 1980's it's very likely the Democrats will get hammered in 2022.

This isn't true either. The biggest voting bloc in the US today is Independent / no party preference. These are the voters that decide elections, not Democrats or Republicans. They swing between the two parties and could easily shift (and likely will) towards the Republicans.

Contrary to a growing list of articles by political pundits who are saying the exact opposite.

They aren't likely to win and the Democrats have no lock on power. It's normal in the US for power to shift between the two parties.

Exactly how? The $15 minimum wage looks dead and buried. Even Biden's administration is saying that. The Democrats dropped it from their latest porkulus package because they knew it was a bill killer. So, what are they going to do to increase paychecks over the next 18 months? Reduce taxes? Not a chance. Reduce business regulation? Free up more federal land for use and resource extraction? Biden's already killed that one... What are they going to do to do this?

Or in the Democrat's case, Insanity is defined as doing the same thing repeatedly despite failing at it every time...

I'm glad that you are enjoying your delusion.

Thanks for all of your input, but we will just have to agree to disagree!

One trend that stopped with Donald Trump- Donald Trump is the first president in the last 28 years to be rejected and not re-elected!

SO AS FAR AS I AM CONCERNED- WITH DONALD TRUMP STILL LEADING YOUR PARTY IN THE WRONG DIRECTION- THE REPUBLICANS WILL FAIL TO WIN IN THE Midterms!

Fair warning! Get rid of that 1,000 lb. GORILLA on your backs!

It was nothing compared to the pasting the Democrats were handed each time. The Democrats gained ground but not the sort of drubbing they took when they occupied the White House.

For example in Obama's first term mid-term election, the House and Senate had "super majorities" of Democrats in both. In the Senate they had 60 seats. They lost 63 seats in the House and 6 in the Senate. In addition, the Republicans gained 6 governorships and flipped 20 state legislatures. While the Democrats held onto the Senate they lost their ability to unilaterally pass legislation, while in the House the Republicans took control.

Arguably, the major cause was the passage of Obamacare.

Same thing with Clinton and Carter before him.

Right now, the Democrats barely control the Senate and have a slim majority in the House. It's likely both will flip in 2022 to Republican control. That dooms Biden's ability to get anything done without major cooperation from Republicans.

This is a winner take all system..... :dunno:

I guess in times like there some must find solace were they can..

Agreed on the "winner take all system". Also note several past elections have several common factors:
1) More Americans voted against the winner than for them.
2) About 70% of American voters are against either party. This is due, of course, to the fact the US has a very high Independent rate among voters, about 40%, of which I'm one.
3) Most elections are very narrow and seem to be getting narrower. How many times has the Senate been 50/50? The House with such narrow margins?

Unfortunately, I agree. The Republicans are a basket case at the moment and their troubles are not over. Even the Republicans know they have several "rebuilding years" to go before taking the Democrats down.

The Trumptarded factor in the Republican party is directly causing them to be a basket case.

It's not going to be an easy win for the Republicans even if they drop Trump. Trump is like a virus that has many lifetime complications- even after it's cure and it's out of pandemic proportion.

Once trust is lost in a Political party, it's hard to re-establish trust!

Agreed, but the mess actually started before Newt when Trump was just another Democrat pedophile hanging out with Jeffrey, Bill and Ghislaine.

The Trumpeteers are just the latest, and probably last, incarnation of the wacky side of the Republican party.

I think it's a sign of the times. Remember when GW won reelection with 52% of the vote and declared he had a "mandate from the People"? Were you thinking "WTF?" like me?

The nation is narrowly divided. Some people interpret that to mean "we're on the verge of civil war". Others, me included, interpret that to mean, most of us aren't happy with either party and are usually voting for the challenger in each election to keep the dominant part off balance.

I vote most often 3rd party..

I find the two party system a stranglehold on the public

Each election cycle the opposition party represents themselves as the solution, as did the party in power previously.

Vote the bastards out only to have them return in their new roles.:palm:

Agreed: Vote the bastards out.

It's the best form of self-defense the public has to corrupt politicians. Unfortunately, as everyone can see in Congress, not everyone agrees. They only want to vote out the opposition, not "their" reps.

yep, a minority that believes their team is good, inherently, & the other bad, inherently~both sides believe it, & this is one of those rare occasions when both sides are right about their beliefs of the other.......:|

LOL. Agreed.

So what's the solution? There are none on the horizon except for what we just discussed: always vote for the challenger and/or Third Party. At least until someone worth a vote comes along.

Too many people vote for the lesser evil. That's not working and, like GW and his "mandate", only serves to embolden the assholes.

you're such an establishment shill.

nationalist populist is the clear winner. just behind individual choice and apple pie.

He isn't leading "my party" anywhere. I am an Independent voter and have been for over four decades. So don't lump me in with the Republicans--or worse, the Democrats.

He just said on Tucker that the D's already know that they will lose the house in two years, so they simply dont give a fuck, they are ramming through the Revolution now..."GIVE IT EVERYTHING YOU HAVE GOT.....IT IS EITHER NOW OR NEVER!!!"

I am skeptical.

They did the same thing in The Obama's first two years. Bend over, America.

Yep, they have seen to it that there is no viable alternative to themselves.

That will not change w/in our life time I am afraid

Victor Davis Hanson on Tucker tonight said sort of the same thing.....He said that the Revolution knows that they dont have public support....which is why DC has been militarized.
