LET IT REALLY SINK IN - THEN CHOOSE .

John is the kind of guy you love to hate. He is always in a good mood and always has something positive to say. When someone would ask him how he was doing, he would reply, "If I were any better, I would be twins!"

He was a natural motivator.

If an employee was having a bad day, John was there telling the employee how to look on the positive side of the situation.

Seeing this style really made me curious, so one day I went up and asked him, "I don't get it!"

"You can't be a positive person all of the time. How do you do it?"

He replied, "Each morning I wake up and say to myself, you have two choices today. You can choose to be in a good mood or...you can choose to be in a bad mood.

I choose to be in a good mood."

Each time something bad happens, I can choose to be a victim or...I can choose to learn from it. I choose to learn from it.

Every time someone comes to me complaining, I can choose to accept their complaining or...I can point out the positive side of life. I choose the positive side of life.

"Yeah, right, it's not that easy," I protested.

"Yes, it is," he said. "Life is all about choices. When you cut away all the junk, every situation is a choice. You choose how you react to situations. You choose how people affect your mood.

You choose to be in a good mood or bad mood. The bottom line: It's your choice how you live your life."

I reflected on what he said. Soon hereafter, I left the Tower Industry to start my own business. We lost touch, but I often thought about him when I made a choice about life instead of reacting to it.

Several years later, I heard that he was involved in a serious accident, falling some 60 feet from a communications tower.

After 18 hours of surgery and weeks of intensive care, he was released from the hospital with rods placed in his back.

I saw him about six months after the accident.

When I asked him how he was, he replied, "If I were any better, I'd be twins...Wanna see my scars?"

I declined to see his wounds, but I did ask him what had gone through his mind as the accident took place.

"The first thing that went through my mind was the well-being of my soon-to-be born daughter," he replied. "Then, as I lay on the ground, I remembered that I had two choices: I could choose to live or...I could choose to die. I chose to live.."

"Weren't you scared? Did you lose consciousness?" I asked.

He continued, "...the paramedics were great.

They kept telling me I was going to be fine. But when they wheeled me into the ER and I saw the expressions on the faces of the doctors and nurses, I got really scared. In their eyes, I read 'he's a dead man'. I knew I needed to take action."

"What did you do?" I asked.

"Well, there was a big burly nurse shouting questions at me," said John. "She asked if I was allergic to anything 'Yes, I replied.' The doctors and nurses stopped working as they waited for my reply. I took a deep breath and yelled, 'Gravity'"

Over their laughter, I told them, "I am choosing to live. Operate on me as if I am alive, not dead."

He lived, thanks to the skill of his doctors, but also because of his amazing attitude...I learned from him that every day we have the choice to live fully.

Attitude, after all, is everything.

Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." Matthew 6:34.

After all today is the tomorrow you worried about yesterday.

Junk mail posts? Geez.

And if you don't send it to 50,000,000 people your luck will run out and you'll be allergic to gravity.

Yeah, this was sent around as junk mail.

But I think this one is worth saving and remembering. I think its as true as anything a $150 an hour psychiatrist will tell you.

I also think its the best way to live.

Write it off as a piece of junk or take it to heart. Its up to you. But then, thats one of the choices you get to make.

LOL.

It made me happy but i'm going to be even happier when the Nigerian businessman, i sent my bank account details to, last week, deposits the 22 million dollars he promised into my account.

Isn't the e-mail post office great?

The single biggest thing that effects the happiness of your life is your own attitude and outlook.

The unfortunate part is that we are not each one in full control of our lives.

People chose to trust and follow Bush, we all will be paying the price for their choices for at least a couple of generations.
We pay the price for bad choices made by spouses and family members.

yes I agree a good positive attitude is great, but sometimes a bit foolhardy.

A positive attitude is not about blindly accepting everything or about blindly following people. It is not the only choice we make, I just think its one of the most important ones.

No matter how hard you work, how hard you try, or how diligently you try to protect your life, some bad shit is going to happen. HOW you face that is the important choice.

We all know rich people who are miserable and poor ones that are happy, so money isn't the answer.

We all know beautiful people who are miserable and ugly ones that are happy. So good looks are not the answer.

We all know healthy people who are miserable and sick or disabled people who are happy so health is not the answer.

A positive attitude does more to help you enjoy the good times and face the bad times than any other single thing.

Ok. But the first time I see you telling someone with a legitimate gripe that it's all their fault because of their attitude, I will shove this post of yours up your butt.

First of all, I would be seriously amused to watch you try.

Second of all, this is not about anything being someone's fault. This is not about having a gripe or not having a gripe. This is not even about whether you do something about your situation or you sit back and accept it.

This is about your view of life. If someone has a legitimate gripe then they should voice it. They should try and rectify the situation.

But whether they sit around and decide that their life is shit or they stay on track is about attitude. Whether they are miserable or happy is about attitude.

You mean like the good laughing, shuffling slave?

I liked the post, I think I got this in email way back. I agree that it's basic, but have lived with a positive attitude and for quite awhile an, "Poor me" attitude and know which one works better.

It's hard to try and see the good side of things, when your circumstances are not 'fair' or 'deserved.' On the other hand feeing down and giving into circumstantial depression will not make things better. Once one sees the beauty and goodness that still surrounds in the midst of the bad, it also becomes possible to work at changing those circumstances.

I for one was glad to have a motivation boost this morning.

Agreed, but some of us can keep a positive attitude in the face of adversity better than others. All people are not built the same way between the ears.

I think we can all accomplish this. For some it takes more effort. For some it comes naturally. But it will be an effort for everyone at some point.

But I think the longer you do it the easier it becomes.

There's nothing wrong with a positive attitude, but expressing it in the same way as a Democratic election speech...

"The other day I met a woman who gave me $1.37, that was all she had, so that I could help provide health care to her cat.. and she told me that without me there'd be no future! She drove 6,000,000 miles from the back sticks of Nowhere, AL, in her Gremlin that she lives in with her two dogs, her cat, and 5 children, because that was all she could afford... blah, blah"...

Well, expressing it that way. It's just sad and transparent. Here you could have made the choice to write something expressive in your own words, or to cut and paste a crappy chain e-mail...
