LeBron James: New Voting Rights Group

WASHINGTON — The N.B.A. superstar LeBron James and a group of other prominent black athletes and entertainers are starting a new group aimed at protecting African-Americans’ voting rights, seizing on the widespread fury against racial injustice that has fueled worldwide protests to amplify their voices in this fall’s presidential election.

“Because of everything that’s going on, people are finally starting to listen to us — we feel like we’re finally getting a foot in the door,” Mr. James said in a phone interview on Wednesday. “How long is up to us. We don’t know. But we feel like we’re getting some ears and some attention, and this is the time for us to finally make a difference.”

The organization, called More Than a Vote, will partly be aimed at inspiring African-Americans to register and to cast a ballot in November. But as the name of the group suggests, Mr. James and other current and former basketball stars — including Trae Young, Skylar Diggins-Smith and Jalen Rose — will go well beyond traditional celebrity get-out-the-vote efforts.

:hand: :hand: :hand:

I have really come to admire him as a person, & a player......

Link to where blacks dont have a right to vote...

Even during jim crow georgia, louZanna etc everyone had "a right" not even the issue, now is it.....:|

Sad when a fool that supports denying certain ppl that right via various means attempts to make it about a right, rather than a reality..

Not funny. It's rayciss to require photo id's to purchase booze, pot, tobacco, firearms and for doctor's offices to verify insurance.

None of that has anything to do w/ having access to voting, now does it........

Perhaps you have some deep hidden knowledge of fraud etc??

lol

You are probably smarter than the vast majority of folks here, that you are ignorant of the facts here is a leap no one should take...........

As long as they had 10 hours to stand on line in Blue districts.

why is it only blue districts fuck up the voting process?......maybe they should hire conservatives to run things for them.......we seem to have less problems with things like that......

None of that has anything to do w/ having access to voting, now does it........
.
Of course not. But logic tells me, if requiring id's for voting is discriminatory , wouldn't requiring id's for anything be discriminatory since studies show a higher percentage of blacks lack ID's? :dunno:
If not pls explain the difference.
I'm advocating no ID for anything. I think it's ridiculous I have to show a photo ID to buy a six pack.

One reason we were cursed with the Toadstool is because so many sat it out in 2016. I've got a good feeling that this year is going to be different. Blue tsunami!!!!

I disagree......Hillary beat him by 3 million votes.

It's the rigged electoral college and the help from the russians.

They, the racist right, is already saying the popular vote won't matter. I'm sure they already have the electoral college rigged.

The racist right have been cheating for decades.

We can also point to the latest poutrage from the GrandWiz-in-Chief, who is threatening to punish states that allow voting-by-mail.

What's ironic about this is the racist fucktard has been told that it will mostly benefit (D) candidates (which he assumes are mostly black people). He's so uninformed and ignorant that he doesn't realize that disallowing voting by mail will also affect the military, people who live in assisted living or nursing home facilities, homebound people, and others who tend to vote for conservative candidates. Oh, and himself.

He also said he could get behind voting by mail in certain areas, but not in urban areas because of crime.

In other words.........Blacks they allow to let vote will still stand in line for 8 hours.

It's interesting how this topic shows how those on the right have been conditioned to spontaneously eject platitudes that reek of racism whenever blacks + voting is the topic. In real life I bet they are in favor of *all* citizens voting. But because like everything else, voting has been politicized by the Reichwing, they'll attack anyone who stands up for voting rights.

You give them too much credit.

Those racist do not want Blacks to vote.

I can't speak to the man's reasoning. But most things in life are a trade-off. Maybe he thinks that people will buy Nike's anyway, and he can apply a lot of that money to improving communities.

If it wasn't Nike, you could probably find something else about him that has some inherent "hypocrisy," like you could w/ anyone. You're moving the goalposts, anyway. This conversation started w/ a board righty saying that the guy w/ the billion $ contract can't read.

What do you think: do you think Lebron can read?

"How much of that billion comes from forced [aka slave] labor in China? [fricking China]"

You should advocate nike stop using forced slave labor. Never heard you complain about them.

Not much.

I'm amazed that you & others are so positive there isn't systemic racism. Do you really think so many minorities can be making that up, or exaggerating about it?

I showed you once that blacks are pulled over more - a lot more. There are all kinds of stats like that. Blacks are profiled in a way that whites can't relate to. I know whites hate to hear that, but as I said the other day, most whites are at a breaking point after 2 weeks of protest. Imagine a lifetime of getting pulled over for doing nothing, or frisked for doing nothing, or being pushed down on the pavement for doing nothing. Imagine not being able to walk to the store at night without some fear of being stopped, frisked and possibly harassed.

Black parents speak about "the talk" they have to have with their children. This is universal in certain areas. They have to instill into their kids, hard, to behave perfectly when they're stopped or pulled over. Or they might die.

"blacks do commit a disproportionate number of violent crimes given their percentage of the population".

This is the lie that allow kops to get away with murder.

We need those "white people at their braking point" to stop believing this lie.

Until then, we will continue to be murdered, harassed, and brutalized.

My own 2 cents is that Floyd was just a trigger - the straw that broke the camel's back. People bring race into what happened, but there is no indication that racism was involved. Sometimes, a bad cop is just a bad cop.

But I just think that video was all too familiar for the black community.

"but there is no indication that racism was involved"

Some racists fuck bringing up one instance of a poor white drug addict being murdered by the kops doesn't dismiss the racism and brutality against Blacks in the law enforcement.

SMH white folk still in denial.

Yes they do, thanks for admitting that.

I would think that everyone -- no matter what their race -- would be interested in curbing the brutality of some police officers. Instead, we have idiots who blame the victims, and we have law makers who are trying to make videoing LEOs a crime.

law enforcement was born to police Black americans.

Their brutality isn't all-inclusive.

My understanding is this Minnesota cop had multiple prior complaints against him. He never should have been on the streets. So it's technically possible it was racially motivated but it's 100% true he was a bad cop.

No question this was the trigger because it was so egregious. It's true, black people have been harassed by cops for a long time. I saw a high school friend get pulled over for driving while black. That was an eye opener to me.

As far as the killing of unarmed black men by cops the WaPo put out (although they've changed the number a couple of times) that it was 10 killed last year. Think about it. Based on everything we've heard would you believe the number is that low? Not in any way suggesting it is acceptable but that certainly belies the narrative we are being told. Since this thread is about LeBron he tweeted out something to the extent of 'we are literally being hunted down and killed on the streets'. Look up the leading list of killers of (young) black men and you won't see the cops on it.

So reform of the police is necessary and black people do get profiled and mistreated at a highly disproportionate rate. But the story being told about police killing unarmed black people is not an accurate one.

10 killed last year. that we know of...........that number doesn't even sound true.

I’d say any parent who doesn’t have ‘the talk’ with their kids could be doing a better job of parenting. Particularly, if one of their kid’s behavior is apt to bring them in contact with law enforcement. The talk would start with ‘absolutely under NO CIRCUMSTANCES do you resist arrest’.

Just think, if no one ever resisted arrest. The cop problem would all but disappear. If you resist arrest, you give that bad cop a perfect opportunity to be a bad cop. If Floyd simply wouldn’t have resisted arrest this thread wouldn’t exist.

But since you eliminated crime statistics [the closest thing to science in this] I don’t want to play anymore.

You're conflating 2 different things.

Sorry - white parents don't have to worry as much if their kid gets pulled over. They certainly don't have to worry about their kid getting shot, unless he/she does something crazy.
