Lefties and the Prius

One night on my weekly commute to the mountains there were two cars playing Gonzomin, doing 60 in a 65 on this section of four lane divided US 421N out of Winston-Salem. There were about ten cars stacked behind them and it took me a while to wind my way through them to reach the offenders. I got right on the bumper of the car on the right and the guy on the left started to play chicken with me by slowly opening up a half car length. Once he did I jerked the wheel to the left and got two feet into his lane.

He instinctively hit his brakes, then realizing his mistake got on the gas to try to close the hole back up. But by that time I was already well into his lane and he tried to pass me on the narrow shoulder. I kept moving left and that had him in the grass, where he was forced to slow down and I got ahead of him. I picked up my speed to 7 over (from his five under) and set the cruise.

As expected, Lefty set his high beams on and tailed me. What was not expected is that his traffic blocking buddy was keeping up as well. So I added another five and reset my cruise. Blockers kept up so I added another five.

Since they had blocked traffic for miles I now had a clear path of highway in front of me and I kept my speed at 17 over until their headlights disappeared in my rear view. Then I set the speed on 7 over, got in the right lane and cruised.

About ten miles further ahead the speed limit decreases from 65 to 55 and so I dropped my speed by ten and kept cruising. Blocking buddies caught up to me after that, passed me then proceeded to try the same game. I used the exact same tactic as before, running Lefty into the grass, getting around them and speeding ahead. After that second try they gave up and I never saw them again since.

How ironic, you challenging me with a car that you can't afford and then telling me not to race on the streets.

I drive at a speed that I consider safe and prudent. It is rare when that speed is not over the posted speed. That speed is up to me, not a control freak like you, Leftist.

In the liberal hellhole area of WI that I drive into for my job, there are certain highways that are marked at 55mph, but everyone drives 70mph on them, and if you "go the speed limit" (especially in any lane other than the very right lane), you are quite literally a hazard to yourself (as well as everyone else) since you are impeding the flow of traffic for those stuck behind you while everyone else darts and dives around you. In that case, you are much safer (for yourself AND others) to go 70mph with the flow of traffic.

Another issue in my area of WI is when you attempt merging onto an interstate or highway and the car in front of you absolutely refuses to get up to road speed before merging (ie, they attempt merging onto the interstate/highway at 45-50mph instead of 65-70mph). Now, from personal experience of being stuck behind those fuckers, THAT is dangerous shit right there. You can't have traffic going at two completely different speeds. It doesn't work very well. It results in accidents. Get your vehicle up to the damn speed limit BEFORE merging onto an interstate/highway. Now, I realize that it is not only Prius drivers which do this, but I have noticed plenty a Prius driver pull this little stunt as well...

Rush hour traffic is a special case because 95% of the drivers on the road are commuting to their job and know every inch of the road. 15 over is the norm and the cops wisely stay out of the way.

I've noticed the slow accelerators as well, but more so taking off from a stop light or sign. My theory is that this is a misguided attempt to save gas and therefore it is virtue signaling. I always accelerate briskly and get up to speed, then 4 over or more. As you can see by my trip summary display in post 190 I averaged well over 28mpg today by accelerating briskly and driving prudently fast. And that's with a 3900# AWD car with a full tank of gas and the trunk loaded with my work tools.

Correct. It's indeed a special case. What I hate is the few people who decide to go 55mph and become a hazard for everyone else. The cops here in WI wisely stay out of the way of rush hour traffic.

The problem I notice with stop signs is that people don't seem to know how to use them anymore. They sit and sit and sit and don't know who is supposed to go when, thus backing up traffic. It's almost as if they are waiting for the fucker to turn green or something...

Yeah, when I can get out of the city and drive to hiking destinations and such, I get great mileage too, since I drive similarly to how you do in that regard.

They have been putting more and more round-a-bouts here lately and drivers are finally gotten used to them. I've seen a dumbass stop at the yield sign before he entered; another stop in the circle and wait for a car at the yield to enter. These people don't know the most basic of traffic laws.

A pet peeve of mine is left turners at lights who don't go into the intersection to wait for oncoming traffic to clear. If done properly at least two cars can legally make the left after the light turns red, but only if they are already past the stop bar. Then there's the turbo dumbass who gets well past the stop bar, then the light turns red, then he does not go and blocks traffic flowing from the intersecting street. Again, zero knowledge of traffic laws.

Those roundabouts are a damn nightmare if you aren't used to them. I hate them!!

They are great in certain situations. For example a low volume road over a highway with an interchange. Put a roundabout on both sides of the highway and you can construct the bridge as a two-lane, and traffic rarely stops. If the same interchange was a diamond, the bridge would have to be three lanes and each off ramp would be stop sign controlled or signals.

Where cross street traffic is about the same volume as the artery they can be used instead of a traffic signal. Cost is lower, maintenance costs are far lower and traffic rarely stops (unless there are inexperienced dumbasses driving through).

They like to use them at school entrances since traffic is naturally slowed down and it is far easier to exit from the school.

Accidents are less severe because of the slow speeds and traffic is not at right angles.

I find them confusing. So yeah, I am one of those "inexperienced dumbasses."

Drive the damn speed limit or get out of the way.

Yes, aggressively weaving in and out of traffic is stupid. There is a way to reduce that issue. It is called "get your Prius out of the damn passing lane if you aren't passing anyone".

Actually, that INCREASES danger (as it increases road rage). It also costs extra money, since it costs the people stuck behind you extra money for gas and vehicle maintenance to have to hit the brakes and re-accelerate again because of your shit for brains... If I drove an old beater truck, I would be very tempted to ram your pussy-hat loving ass out of my way and into the right lane where you belong...

Driving faster and aggressively uses more gas and more money, Your childish anger shows why you have road rage. At no time did I say i was not driving the speed limit. I never feel road rage.

You'll figure it out. The guy in it has the right-of-way. As you approach, slow down, look left and make sure he isn't continuing around into your path. Once you are in it you have the right-of-way so act like it, find your exit and get on the gas.

It's great in a sports car when going straight through because you can use the whole width of the road and turn a 15 mph maneuver into a 30 mph one.

The only one driving aggressively is you, doing The Lefty, prohibiting free movement of traffic and telling all your fellow drivers to fuck off.

I don't know, I guess I don't encounter them enough to get used to them. When we go to car shows, we mostly avoid interstates and run the back roads. We generally run the speed limit and stay in the right lane, but run with traffic on the two lanes. But when I'm by myself in my sports car...

You Leftists do that now, and create a dangerous condition on the highway by backing up traffic behind you. That's what this entire thread is about, to expose your desire to control people and restrict freedom.

There have been times when I have literally forced Leftists onto the shoulder to get past them.

yes because you know the politics of drivers around you :palm:

Let's make it simple for you. I do not drive the speed limit in the left lane. I think it would be good for you if I did. I am not an emotional driver. It is how I get from one place to another. I am a defensive driver keeping alert for people like you who drive on a race track instead of roads. I have seen many people driving like idiots because that are not in control of their emotions, which also means they are not in control of their cars.
Throw in cell phones and driving is a lot more dangerous than it used to be.
Your anger shows what you are like on the road.

I know. To rightys that makes sense. It is amazing what mental tricks rightys can play on themselves. I guess you have not understood the posts.

Same with Southern Wisconsin... We have A LOT of roundabouts now, and people here also seem to be more used to them now. At this point, I'd rather deal with roundabouts than stop signs.

I have that same pet peeve with left turners at lights. My biggest pet peeve is still the fuckers who don't know how to wait behind the intersection if traffic is backed up in their direction (instead, they get bumper to bumper to the car ahead of them WITHIN the intersection, thus backing up the cross-traffic since the cross-traffic is now unable to go anywhere during at least half or most of their already quickly timed green light).

Those roundabouts are a damn nightmare if you aren't used to them.
True.

I hate them!!
I used to hate them with a passion. I still hate particular ones if it is pointless to have them there. All in all, now that I am used to them, I like them more than stop signs, since traffic flows through them better, and since people seem to have all but forgotten how to use stop signs properly (but have gotten better about roundabouts).

I still have a dislike towards them during Winter, since people seem especially incapable of driving safely whenever there is any sort of snow or ice.

Driving faster and aggressively uses more gas and more money,
Yup.

Your childish anger shows why you have road rage.
I am the calmest driver you will ever meet, so long as you are not putting me in danger or attempting to play "pace car". Putting me in danger pisses me off. Attempting to control every aspect of my life pisses me off.

At no time did I say i was not driving the speed limit.
You said you were doing so in the passing lane. That is playing "pace car".

I never feel road rage.
Ignorance is bliss.

Yup.

Can you understand even the simplest posts. This thread is not hard to follow.Perhaps you could spend some time understanding it before you barge in with the stupid.

Let's make it simple for you. I do not drive the speed limit in the left lane.
Irrelevant. If you find that people are passing you on your right, then you are not driving properly. You are attempting to play "pace car". You are "doing the Lefty".

I think it would be good for you if I did.
No, it wouldn't. That creates road rage. That is good for no one. You are not a dictator over everyone else's lives. That is the main difference here. I am willing to let people run their own lives. I am willing to let dumb fucks be dumb fucks. You wish to compel all other people to behave as you deem fit. You wish to implement control over them.

I am not an emotional driver.
I don't believe you.

It is how I get from one place to another.
No, making use of a properly working vehicle is how you are driving from one place to another.

I am a defensive driver keeping alert
Me too.

for people like you who drive on a race track instead of roads.
What's it to you if other people decide to speed? Let them speed. Get the fuck over into the right lane if you aren't passing anyone.

I have seen many people driving like idiots because that are not in control of their emotions, which also means they are not in control of their cars.
Yup, so have I. But you can't force those people to control their emotions. You can't force them to drive a certain way.

Throw in cell phones and driving is a lot more dangerous than it used to be.
People would be smart to pay attention to their surroundings. Not all people are smart. Even so, smart people can have "stupid moments".

Your anger shows what you are like on the road.
I am the calmest person you will ever meet unless you attempt to put me in danger or attempt to control every aspect of my life. Those things tend to piss me off.
