Have you ever noticed that the freidman, grover norquist types are all about "economics" low taxes, and "free markets". Its virtually all most of their puppets blather on about. Occassionally they'll make some rhetorical nod towards civil liberties, or social justice. But, what really drives them is taxes, government regulation, and "free markets". In other words, its about money and property. Its like a religion with these kooks. And we all know that religion is dangerous, becase it breeds zombie-like parrots and clones. And, as you pointed out, what happens when the zombie-like principles of a cult religion are applied in the real world? Pinochet.

I must admit, I didn't know much about this freidman clown. Other than his name, and his association with kooky economics.

I never made that claim, what I said was that I look to his deeds and the results of his policies, not to his words, for the truth. That is what I look to judge anyone, not just him.

I wasn't "faced" whatever that means, and anyone who knows anything about historical events in that part of that world, is aware of this.

Obviously, that leaves you out.

You seemed pretty unaware that Friedman had criticized Pinochet, but that didn't stop you from foolishly claiming that he didn't.

There are 2 possiblities:

1) Either you are a moron who spews absurd claims without knowledge of the facts surrounding the situation.

Or

2) You are actively dishonest.


I don't know or care which one you are.

WOW! Friedman is a murderer. BAC forgot to bold the part of the article he posted that says this:

"Perhaps even a better indicator of progress, torture and extrajudicial executions began to taper off."

Friedman believed in taking power away from the government and giving it to the individual. Somehow because some radical government implemented some of his policies and some of their own, he is responisble for ever murder of that government. Calling the man a murderer is just nuts.

You continue telling others to put it up... yet you do not. Show us how Friedman was responsible for the torture/murder etc.... show us how his policies led to those acts.

That's pretty obvious. If you read what Pinochet did (economically alone not even counting the other stuff) and believe that is anything in the neighborhood of verbatim Friedman then you have no clue about Friedman.

Yet, you still claim to know that he never talked about civil liberties. His was one of the first and most prestigious voices on the evils of the drug war.
 
Ok, in theory, the freer the market the freer the government because it means less government. But in reality, in Pinochet's Chile it meant less government involvement in business. But politically the government used an iron hand. It killed and tortured and disappeared thousands to retain it's power. Because the people who owned businesses benefited from Pinochet's economic policies they supported him and ALSO turned a blind eye to his barbarism. Even after he died tens of thousands of people who benefited economically from his regime cried for him. But any unbiased assesment of his government leads the thinking person to determine he was a totalitarian and a murderer. The US continues an embargo on Cuba for much the same thing but people like Friedman and 5 American administrations turned a blind eye and a deaf ear to Chile because the government like foreign investment and people where getting rich on the misery of the common Chilean. Hitler turned the German economy around as well.
