OP: "List ONE thing that America needs done and make a case for why it needs doing"

Owl: Does so. ( https://www.justplainpolitics.com/s...-for-why-it-needs-doing&p=4355297#post4355297 )

OP: (changes subject numerous times, refuses to discuss response to OP)

Not what I saw. I know what he meant but then again, I could be mistaken. ;)

Do you think people can be moral without religion yourself? I want to know your opinion.

I believe with 99% certainty that ALL morality is either based on religion in some way, and/or that the desire to make everyone more moral is the reason for religion.

The problem with this OP and its author is that he is looking for certain things, and will reject out of hand as "commie" or "socialist" anything that doesn't fit in his Wish Box. Nevertheless, here goes.

The United States needs to ditch the ACA and institute a true national health plan similar to Medicare. Basic services are covered; citizens may purchase (or receive through their employers) supplemental plans just like we use Medicare B and D. Companies will no longer need to offer health care insurance, unless they want to offer the supplements as hiring incentives. In exchange we will raise their taxes slightly to pay for the new plan. Nonprofit hospitals and other providers will receive higher reimbursement rates than for-profits as an incentive to return to the nonprofit model that served us so well in the past. To forestall any crying from the RW about illegals, this plan will *only* be for U.S. citizens.

Sorry. After 'going off' on your opening greeting, I got distracted along the way and failed to get back to your idea.

I note your idea but can't process it well right now due tomy altered state. I can do easy posts and responses, but yours requires a clear mind. I do like that it excludes non-citizens.

And not because I am necessarily against foreigners, but that I don't want them to cost us anything much and I want some assurance they don't intend to harm America and I don't want them to automatically become new Democrat voters and I want US to say who and how many get in.

yes, so long as you do not involve minor children in her loss of virtue.......

Noted.

Thanks.

By the way...

There is a scene in one of very satisfying Jesse Stone films (the one where he and Healy were shot)* where Jesse (Tom Selleck) asks Healy if he'd ever known the charms of an older woman, and the answer was 'yes.' He then asked if his friend had any regrets. The reply was, 'nope. Fond memories.'

Jesse replied, 'Yep, me too.'

EDIT: This is the film. They are all great.

Morality and laws were established long before any major religion.

While a tree can grow in Brooklyn, Brooklyn is not where one goes to harvest lumber.

I will concede the point that some sense of morality, to one degree or another, can and does exist in some (how many? what %?) individuals without religion, but was Washington saying he was speaking of the individual or as the leader of a country inhabited by 2,500,000 people?

I love this quote from the movie, "Men In Black".

A person is smart. People are dumb, panicky dangerous animals and you know it. Fifteen hundred years ago everybody knew the Earth was the center of the universe. Five hundred years ago, everybody knew the Earth was flat, and fifteen minutes ago, you knew that humans were alone on this planet. Imagine what you'll know tomorrow.

I had a feeling our Founding Fathers knew of this, hence the reason for the Constitution. ;)

You may be the brightest Liberal I know.

American needs to address the great polarization, which is a dug-in culture war, by partitioning.

That's the only way to give most people in most areas something close to what they want.
Otherwise, the hatred will only continue to grow.
Today's America is reaching its expiration date.

LOL. This isn't like one of those 007 movies.

There are no Communists or Islamists who decide the course of America.

No just leftists deciding the course of America but that's almost lore dangerous as they donut under the guise of caring about america. At least with communists or islamists we know what we are getting.

Islamists are religious fanatics.
