Marine Corps officer becomes first active-duty service member charged in Jan.6 attack

He'll be court martialed and that will strip him of everything.

BTW, in the military it's "do your 20+ or get nothing but a severance check." There will be no double jeopardy since he'll be charged under "Conduct unbecoming an officer". There could be other charges depending on the facts. Again, no double jeopardy.

Doubtful. More likely, like Bagman, he will, if convicted, be dismissed from service. The charges are federal civil ones, so he won't be charged under the UCMJ.

WASHINGTON – A Marine Corps officer was arrested Thursday and charged with assaulting police officers at the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol, making him the first service member on active duty charged for his role in the deadly riot, the Justice Department said.

Warnagiris, 40, who's stationed at the Marine Corps Base in Quantico, Va., is facing several charges, including assaulting, resisting or impeding officers, obstruction of law enforcement, and obstruction of justice. He is among several dozen people with ties to the military who are facing charges related to Jan. 6. The Justice Department said it has charged four guardsmen and reservists and about 40 veterans.

Semper Fi, guanohead.....

I Googled the name but came up empty.

We'll see. The Marine Corps doesn't take shit like this lightly. Unlike the Navy where an officer has to make O-5 to become field grade, the Marine Corps makes 0-4s/Majors field grade officers. They're held to a higher standard just as we all should, but too many don't, anyone of higher government authority.

there's not enough evidence to convict him of a felony......since they all did less than the Portland rioters and those charges were all dismissed, there's not much here to get excited about.....

Meh. He'll be looking for a job after the Marine Corps is done with him....although he may go to Leavenworth for 5 years between now and then.

BTW, the military rarely grants paroles. :)

We gotta get the racists out of the military.

The last thing we need to be doing is training racists how to be killers.

Dutch is half right on this one. As an officer, they will charge him with conduct unbecoming, most likely.

Nah. The military will pigeon hole him in an office somewhere until the outcome of the charges is done. If he's convicted the expedient thing is dismissal from service (note: He will not get a dishonorable discharge, or any other sort of discharge. He's an officer, not enlisted) you'd know that if you had served in the military like I did for 27 years.

I've seen senior enlisted and officers both get that exact same treatment for this situation because the military doesn't want the expense and effort of charging him and a trial, nor do they want to make a big deal out of his dismissal.

I did serve, thank you. I hear what you're saying but we're also now dealing with a leftist federal government that will want to make an example of him.......he will not simply walk away from this

Imagine losing your pension, your comfortable retirement, your reputation, possibly your freedom because on a whim you decided to attack the U.S. government on behalf of a fat, stupid man-baby.

Imagine actually having the balls to do something about a corrupt government or injustice. Something you would know nothing about.

Crazy, huh?

IMO, most, if not all of the Insurrectionists have mental issues even if it's just plain stupidity. A Marine Corps Major isn't stupid, but he might go crazy.

40 years old and believe that Trump is the real President? WTF?

Ergo, anyone on this forum who believes that to be true but didn't go is a balless coward. LOL

FWIW, had a civil war broken out and the government collapsed, which it would have, I had already identified the main Trumpsters for a few miles around (not that there's a lot of us out here in rural Texas) to kill. I would have upheld my oath and defended the Constitution against domestic enemies.

It would have worked both ways Dutch.

Imagine a retired warrant officer sticking up for traitor criminal fascists trashing my US capitol and calling for Pence's head on a plate.

I hadn't thought that far ahead. I do know what side I'd be on.

The union.

True, but I'm a retired vet and not a Biden supporter. They'd be seeking to take over the local government and executing all the known Liberals. I'd have been under the radar.
