Trump's get of jail free card throughout his term has been the fealty of his adoring base
more than than his willingness to disregard presidential mores or exploit loopholes, IMO. Or the latter was
procured/insured by the former. It has always relied on them and the cowardly
Rs in Congress who are essentially hostages to his base.

Nixon is a good example. But back then the Repubs stood up to him. The republican party is a subsidiary of Trump Inc. They are under his control. They bend and fold whatever direction he pushes them. Nixon was like Barr in his philosophy. He said "If the president does it, it is legal". Barr holds that in belief, Trump accepts it because he is power-mad and only thinking of himself. More power for him is good.
