I don't care about muh constitution. Our laws and policies should be based on logic, not a piece of paper.
Why would anyone be afraid of guns?

No, we have other things in place to keep the country from becoming a dictatorship. We have democratic elections, checks and balances, and government transparency.
We don't have a perfect system, but we have enough that keeps any one person or party from becoming too strong. The fact that a Fascist like Trump has been so restrained is a true testament to how great America really is.

i'm not sure you actually live in America, especially if you think we have transparency. Also, the only thing that has stopped our country from becoming a dictatorship is that no party or politician has actually wanted to try because there are still 80 million gun owners out there. But you Democrats continue to try to whittle it down so we could end up like Venezuela. What do you think would happen if either party decided that enough was enough and ignored elections?

Like I said, it's not a perfect system. We also don't have a perfect democracy. But we have enough transparency (I think there should be more) and democracy that is keeping the Fascists in line.
Historically speaking, an armed population is actually more likely to lead towards Fascism, not less.
First of all, I'm not a Democrat. I have a challenge for you. Try having discussions here without using the following words: Democrat, Liberal, Leftist, Socialist, Progressive.
Secondly, Venezuela ended up the way it did because of American imperialism. If anything, it's an example of the American 1% being too powerful to the point where they can destroy other countries.
Then depending on how much support that party had, we'd either end up with a dictatorship, or the military would move in, whoop their ass, and drag them out of congress.

if you're not any of those, then what do you consider yourself? and show me the history of an armed population turning in to fascism. also, what evidence or experience do you have to show that the military would come in and 'whoop their ass'

Well I'm left-leaning. I think we should have equal opportunity, equality before the law, and more civil liberties. I don't mind being called a Leftist. I just think Conservatives bring up "Leftists" and "Liberals" as a way to take the focus off the issues. Discuss ideas, the people who have the ideas are a different issue.
The Nazis and the Bolsheviks both used guns to force their way into power. In both cases, the citizens did NOT rise up to kick them out of power. And no, the Nazis did not ban guns, they made it easier to own guns for German citizens.
None. For all I know they would be obedient troops and support the government no matter what. I'd like to hope they wouldn't, but who knows?
This is why I want power and wealth to be spread throughout society, not pooled into the 1%. We need to take as many steps as possible to keep our democratic republic.

Which I would be ok with if we didn't have so many shootings. We're basically allowing a massive problem to continue so that guns might some day save us from tyranny, which will most likely never happen.

these events happened because the ENTIRE populace wasn't armed. there was no resistance, or at most just a minimum of resistance. we have alot of that here in this country. people living with the belief that guns aren't necessary, or that the cops/military wouldn't tyrannize, or worse, that the government would never become tyrannical. the 2nd Amendment is for the whole population, not just a specific subset.
I hope that it never does happen, though in reality we're very close to it now with what the different government entities do. and all of those shootings? the price of freedom.

Not only is it mostly Righties doing that here, but look at mainstream politics. It's always the Democrats this, the Liberals that, anything to invoke political tribalism.
This is another thing gun enthusiasts don't realize. The reason gun-owners didn't resist the Nazis and the Bolsheviks is because some of them were scared, knowing they'd be killed by the military, while others actually agreed with the Nazis or the Bolsheviks. And it would be the same thing today. Like Trump says, he has the "tough guys" on his side. If he declared himself dictator, most of his supporters would continue supporting him.
Ultimately, it would be up to the military to either support him, or listen to the Democrats who tell them to remove him from power.
Look at all of the countries that have both more gun control and more freedom than America. We don't need to choose.

then you're still not paying attention. yeah, he's got a lot of supporters, but because of his bump stock ban, support for red flag laws and silencer bans, and his statement of 'take the guns first, due process second', he lost the independent supporters he once had and there are alot of us. more than you realize. and death comes to us all............better to die on our feet than live on our knees.
the things that are happening in new zealand now will stand as an example. or connecticutt. or even maryland where an old mans family member got angry and called the cops for a red flag confiscation. he resisted, they killed him. it hasn't happened once since then for fear of backlash. it only takes a minority to take a hard line stand and the government will ease off or pull back, but if there's no real resistance...........................speaks for itself
