The fire department that my son works for reduced its physical standards for women. I guess that is fine as long as they only are asked to rescue women and children.

That's not what I asked. Most fire chiefs don't actually fight fires. Read the link in the OP. Now once again, has Kelly ever seen and talked to the rank and file firefighters who are doing the actual job fighting these fires?

Right now they need volunteers, they are not hiring right now.
and I know it is a little more then pointing a hose , but right now they need able bodied people no matter what shape to get the fires out.
YOU can deal with all this fitness and training BS AFTER the fires are out.
Again what don't you understand?
at this time it is WAY more important to get the fires out with what ever people you have including men, women if needed whom ever, and they can deal with the other stuff later.

The Fire dept. can deal with the fitness thing later.

I think that in many cases physical standards have been lowered and that is never acceptable... You don't hire a firefighter whio checks boxes... But is not physically qualified... If there is a house fire and the occupants are Filipino and Lgbtqi,....they don't care if Filipino responders, gay or straight ...male or female...are answering the call to save their lives... But they do care that everyone who is answering the call is physically capable of doing so...

But if they can't get them then use the available people firefighters and anybody that volunteers you can get, I am sure there are a lot of jobs they can do to help.

Someone who is not fit could easily jeopardize the lives of people in danger.... Including other firefighters... An able body person is a fit person.You do understand that... correct?

Well, these ... " they were required to perform such feats as carrying a 120 pound dummy up a flight of stairs, climb an eight foot wall, and jog for one mile.” ... do not seem like an excessive physical requirement to me.

You have to remember the ones they have have been out there fighting these fires for days they need all the help they can get, and I don't care what shape any volunteer is in there are jobs they can do .

Recently there was a house fire in my town. An Indian grandmother was trapped in a 2nd floor fire and was unconscious. The firefighter climbed a ladder put her on his shoulder and carried out a window and down the ladder. He saved her life she was about 130 lbs. Not everyone can do that. She would have died if he didn't do what he did. I bet she doesn't care that he wasn't Indian or female.
