Mental Illness is not to blame for gun violence

Thanks for all the lies and the OCD demonstration. It proves my point about you. Sad

Maybe I missed the part of any thread where you came out in support of Medicare for All...I'm willing to give that to you if you can prove it.

But I don't recall you ever supporting Medicare for All.

I've advised them, like you, to get help

So you passed the buck..."get help", how?

The only way they could get help is if they had Medicare for All, since that gives everyone mental health care...but you oppose Medicare for All...so how do you intend on getting those people "help"?

Oh, right, you haven't thought that far ahead about it...you're not really a big picture thinker...you're just a reactionary.

I wanted you to demonstrate your OCD for everyone a dozen more times before replying to your loaded questions and lies. LOL

OK.

So if it is a contributing factor, and could be the predominant reason for many of those spree killings, then what sense does it make to not evaluate every gun owner in case there are other shooters just like them?

We know mental illness is the #1 reason for gun suicides, which make up half of all gun deaths...so requiring examinations would not only prevent most -if not all- of those mass shooters, but it would also prevent most -if not all- of those suicides!

Not being able to get a gun because you're suicidal or homicidal is not a punishment for mental illness.

Rehabilitation is the goal, but that requires a massive buy-in by the federal government and society.

I personally don't think you can rehabilitate an addiction to guns.

Because owning a firearm is just one thing a person can do.

A person can buy a fast car.
A person can buy cutlery in a kitchen supply store.
A person can buy a house near a school.

Are we to have a mental evaluation for everybody doing anything?

I suppose some can think it's worth it for guns.
If your shrink gets $400 an hour, that would certainly make gun ownership a little more expensive for those of moderate means.

I see it differently.
I accept that one genuinely unique feature of being American is the susceptibility to getting your ass capped by anyone including a little nanny pushing a pram.
I can live with that.
I'm more upset with no national healthcare and anti-union "right to work" laws.
Others clearly see it differently.

Guns really bug you and don't bother me that much,
even though I haven't played with mine in years.
I'm sure that there are things that piss the hell out of me that you don't even think about.
That's how it is, right?

Well, for guns, yes, since the reason given for these shootings is mental illness.

No, the evaluations are covered by the state...then the gun owner doesn't need to fork out anything.

You're making a decision about my safety based on your personal comfort with this.

I don't want to accept that risk, but you're here telling me that I must because it makes you comfortable.

How about MY comfort? Why is that treated as secondary?

Guns are a drug, no different than heroin or cocaine...all three release endorphins that provide comfort, calm, and consistency.

If you haven't "played" with your guns in years, then why do you even fucking have them?

I'm sure that there are things that piss the hell out of me that you don't even think about.

The difference is that I'm not telling you that your personal comfort level is secondary to mine, like you're telling me.

I obviously accept your right to advocate for that in which you believe, LV.
I don't consider you obligated to advocate for that in which I believe.
It doesn't seen odd to me that people might have different priorities.

We'll each advocate for what's important to us personally.
On my particular list, gun control is pretty far down.
On yours, it's obviously up there.
But is there anything unusual about this?

What loaded question?

You think I'm being unfair asking you why you cry crocodile tears over the depressed and suicidal, but don't support Medicare for All?

LV, I'm actually to the LEFT of Medicare for All.
Medicare is public funding for private services which is really expensive.
The UK's National Health Service works so well because it's public services.
That's what I favor.

What if I lost it or forgot it? You know, like how 200,000 of you lose or forget your guns every year...
You get another one...they're pretty handy...for lots of reasons.... Did you lose your gun? Or forget it?

I'm good with either...we just need something.

Why must you need one to actually vote when you used one to register?

To prove the person voting is who they say they are. You know, like showing your student ID or driver's license to take the SATs now because some assholes cheated by paying others to take their test for them.

https://www.nytimes.com/2020/07/07/us/politics/mary-trump-book.html
As a high school student in Queens, Ms. Trump writes, Donald Trump paid someone to take a precollegiate test, the SAT, on his behalf. The high score the proxy earned for him, Ms. Trump adds, helped the young Mr. Trump to later gain admittance when he transferred as an undergraduate to the University of Pennsylvania’s prestigious Wharton business school.
