Minimum Wage Hike

LOL I used to be one. They're composed mostly of middle class small business men and merchants who are almost utterly lacking in imagination or empathy and pretty much can only see the world from their point of view. If the Chamber of commerce had it's way any attorney who ever litigated a civil suit would be summarily executed and they would have a maximum wage of $0.10/day so that no employee could earn more than that. As a networking clique it's a pretty good community organization to belong too if you enjoy being active in community affairs and development but their typical member usually has pretty reactionary political views.

Yep. They are good as a networking tool, but I feel like I need a shower anytime I go.

When Ford did it stimulated the eonomy. He doubed wages, no ill effects. This is the complaint made by corporations and their supporters every time there is talk of raising the minimum wage, but I have never seen the ill effects come to pass that they lament about. If you have proof to the contrary, I would really like to review it.

When was this that Ford did it?

They're attracted to me like ducks are drawn to junebugs too. It always reminds me of when i was younger and used to go to clubs. The one type of guy I was always grossed out by were guidos. Of course, I was a total guido-magnet. I could walk into any club and have 7 or 8 guidos circling me within 120 seconds. Is it any wonder I didn't get married Mott? No! It's not a wonder! :)

Does that mean my employer will be forced to adjust my pay? After all if you raise minimum wage to that, prices will go up and if I do not receive the same amount of hike they do I am screwed, it will be like starting at the bottom rung again. Low skilled workers will get a huge raise, and higher skilled workers like myself will be screwed.

yes, that is what they are saying will happen. That they can raise minimum wages for unskilled workers (not low skilled) and the low and higher skilled workers just have to deal with it. That is what Zappa proposes will happen. That is what many Dems pretend will happen.

No way everyone will get the 24% increase the unskilled are going to get if this passes, but wages will go up for low and higher skilled workers as well.

I feel like you're not listening. What do you want, a picture of a place where a business no longer is? It didn't make the news, it was a small business.

I meant it was one business, small businesses fail all the time, especially within the first five years. I would need to see the proof of the bigger impact or did another business step in and succeed where they failed.

As opposed to drawing the conclusion based on a rational hypothesis, there were costs associated with a business, due to a raise in those costs the business failed. Now what cost do we KNOW went up? I'd say the burden of proof would lie with you to prove it wasn't the wage increase that did it, since I don't know of anything else. But then that would imply that I cared whether or not you believed me. You asked for an example of a failure, I provided one. Now demonstrate to me how the 1.5 dollar/hour pay jump is going to make everything better and not mess with the large number of businesses who employ unskilled workers.

Why $9? That's not going to get people out of poverty. And you said it was a dog whistle to bring up economics so if economics aren't an issue why not go with something closer to a living wage amount of $15 or $20?

Because, as stated earlier, we want to minimize any negative impact that might arise as a result of raising the minimum wage.

I think one should be required, some CEO's are paid far too much, it is ridiculous and as a stockholder I complain!
That's because corporations have their boards stacked with good ole boy buddies instead of people who represent the stock holders. That needs to change.

So economics are an issue now? So when I bring up economics it's a dog whistle. But if you or someone else brings it up it's all good. Got it.

The dog whistle was the excuse that it will be bad for the economy, cawacko, lol, did I hurt your whittle feelings. ;)

Ridiculous, one business does not mean it is a disastrous policy and it was your example, the burden of proof is on you, not me.
