Look a little closer, by numbers total and always at the top of the people killed per incident ,it's the AR 15 or other comparable weapon. . First the reason the hand gun is on the total ( not the one I'm showing you) list almost totally is because a mass shooting was 3 and then 4 people killed , those numbers almost across the board being family shooting. I have looked at this list and referenced it as I said before. Multiple weapons has been AR15 or comparable. except one on this list.

I've answered your question even when doing so I thought it was stupid. The reason why handguns are counted by incident in mass shooting is because the 3 or 4 people designation for the minimum for mass shooting encompasses family murders. But by far by the total number killed is owned totally by the ar15 it's at the top of the list . Massacres in this country, no one would go without a AR.
