Good. Drafted? Four year hitch and ran away as fast as you could? Both are pretty common so there's no disgrace.

Neither. My intentions were going through the Army's sniper school, those intentions didn't pan out.
So, as a civilian, I became a certified hi-power rifle instructor and chose to teach the techniques of
long range shooting. Why? Because I'm good at it.

That was the day I turned 18!!! in NY the law at that time was you could buy alcohol at 18
So the Navy is allowing sailors who wish to remain in the Navy to remain in the Navy... That is a lot better than the stop loss we had under Bush. Soldiers who had served their entire enlistment, including time they expected to be in reserves, were forced to stay in for longer.

I can understand drafting into the Air Force, especially for people with needed skills. What always seemed strange to me is they drafted into the Marines during Vietnam. The Marines are extreme, because they volunteer to be extreme. It just never seemed sane to force people to be Marines.
What next, drafting people to be Navy SEALs?

It's not really drafting into the USAF; a person who is likely to be drafted might be inclined to join a service that wouldn't send him to Vietnam on long hikes looking for Charlie within six months of enlistment.

As for the Marines, they were taking high casualties and needed replacements.
