However, the penalty can be more severe if the offender has three or more prior convictions for certain violent felonies and drug offenses. In this case, the offender would face a mandatory minimum of 15 years in prison without parole under the Armed Career Criminal Act (ACCA) of 1984.

It's a stupid law. The difference between a felony and misdemeanor is one day.
