NFL Playoffs

I give Philly their due, they looked good against the Giants. Now the Giants aren't all that good a team but Philly handled their business. Props to them.

That QB is a Nor Cal kid, he's from the East Bay. I'd love to see him stay home and go to Cal but that will never happen (random fun fact, Cal has had more starting Super Bowl QB's than any other school). We already got the top QB recruit for next year, we aren't going after that kid. (Not a hard sell to get a young QB to play for Lincoln Riley).

Our N.I.L. game is week. We've lost several players to bigger bags. The University is being very conservative in how we handle N.I.L. (compared to schools like cough, Oregon and Miami, cough).

You can get SF right now with two and half points, McCaffrey top choice to score the first TD of the game on the prop bets

I don't think it, or many of the big NIL packages, comes down to what coach, or who for that matter, you play for, but the money

Yep. That's one, but not many others..
Yep, that too. A hard pill to swallow.

That's sports. Sometimes we win, and sometimes we lose.
Right now, my Pats, for whom I used to cheer in Fenway Park when I was in college in the 1960s, are doing a lot of losing again.
By the way, the tickets at Fenway Park were seven bucks back then.

Listening to the radio this morning it was reported almost 20% of the secondary buyers for tickets to the game are from California. And the price for the game is almost double the cost of the KC-Cincy game. So it's not just real estate that we Californians drive the price up of. Everybody knows that Philly fans are trash. A large number of Californians visiting might bring some class to that God forsaken City.

This is the Niners third NFC Championship Game in the last four years. They aren't some upstart team coming out of nowhere. They play a very physical brand of football both on defense and especially on offense. And they've discovered a gem in Purdy who while not a Mahomes or Allen level talent has that 'it' factor about him and shows incredible poise and leadership on and off the field.

So it's interesting to hear the Niners thought of so lightly based on what they've accomplished. I hope the Eagles overlook them as well.

Purdy might be some new thing to you, but he played at Iowa State and I have been well aware of his skills and limitations for some time. The Eagles are fortunate to be playing a rookie qb in the championship game is all I am saying. He will be hard pressed to keep up with their ability to score

At one time didn’t they play at the football stadium at BU? I recall reading that on a plaque somewhere

Hey, I like Philly, you just have to know where not to go, and I would agree that the Eagle games are the wild Wild West, no pun intended, sitting out in the cold consuming large amounts of alcohol wearing six layers of clothing leads to irritable fans.

And think any big event in a major city in the northeast will have higher costs over that occurring in Missouri

The beauty of Purdy's situation in SF is he's not being asked to carry the team. He has incredible weapons around him and a brilliant play caller in Shanahan. He's shown he can make the throws needed and most importantly he's not (at least yet) made big mistakes. This is going to be a huge challenge for him. Philly is (stating the obvious) very good. But I wouldn't sleep on him.

Philly fans are notorious and it seems the City has a little brother syndrome about it. The 49ers and Eagles have only met once in the playoffs I believe so we don't have much history with them. When I worked in LA my old firm owned a couple of high rises in downtown Philly and I can remember the two guys who headed the account making snide remarks about disliking having to go to Philly to do on-site visits and not liking the City. Always made me laugh.

he was pretty much shut down against Dallas - when they had 4 days of prep time. he is easy to defend.

I'm stating the obvious but the goal is to win the game, not just have the QB put up crazy stats. The team has won 12 straight, including all of Purdy's starts. If he's easy to defend then it reasons you could take away the run game and everything else that Shanahan has come up with but clearly that hasn't been the case.

Philly has an excellent D and they can put pressure on the QB. But the 49ers have a hell of a running game and we saw the Commanders run over the Eagles when beating them so I'm not putting this game in the L column just yet.

He's an excellent game manager, especially for how short a time he has been in the league in a starting role!
When if ever did a rookie QB get this far in the playoffs?

Two days away from game time and the juices are starting to flow. As stated, Philly could easily run away with this. They are a very good team with few weaknesses and Hurts has had a MVP type season. But delving into the Philly (fans) mindset I get the sense they are almost overlooking the 49ers. They have the sense one or two folks here have of who is this Purdy guy and what has he done and he'll be easy to stop.

I really hope that attitude trickles down to the team and they come out overconfident and the 49ers get physical and punch them in the mouth early. LFG!!!

49'ers have a very good defense, I think it will be a close game.
