I have a Dallas PD detective friend that was at the Dallas BLM shooting. He helped take out the shooter. The guy was hold up in a corner of a parking garage. He was in a good spot and could shoot anyone approaching him. He wanted something to eat. They used a police robot to deliver food to him. They delivered a pound of C4 instead (thanks ATF). They broke out almost every window on that side of the building next door. The Robot guys were not pleased that the explosion torn up their robot.
And we also prosecute cops that don't follow protocol.

Neither paranoia nor cowardice on the part of Lt Byrd justify his summary execution of Ashli Babbit.
Ashli Babbit didn't go through any window. Her dead body fell to the floor below where she had jumped vertically.
She jumped vertically and was shot dead.
Distance is irrelevant. Byrd was not authorized to carry out summary executions on peaceful protestors in a public building. Ashli Babbit was executed because she was a Trump supporter, not because she somehow posed some sort of threat to anyone.

That is illegal. Ashli Babbit was not a threat to the US Capitol. The SCOTUS just decided. Lt. Byrd now needs to be arraigned for murder.

Her hand is visible through the door so has passed through the window. Her entire torso is no longer outside the window frame. Democrats were united in high-fiving Byrd for wasting a Trump supporter and quickly absolved him of all wrongdoing ... because, after all, Ashli Babbit was a Trump supporter. Democrats argued that Byrd was rightfully "frightened for his life" given all the after-the-fact hysteria that Democrats generated in order to bury Trump.
Enter SCOTUS. In a unanimous 9-0 landmark decision Barnes v. Felix less than two weeks ago (15 May 2025), the Supreme Court declared that it is not sufficient for a police officer to claim that he was in "fear for his life or the lives of others" when using deadly force. An objectively clear threat must exist such that it is determined that any rational, reasonable police officer in that situation would have also used deadly force. Given that the unarmed and peaceful Ashli Babbit's small vertical leap in a public building did not objectively obligate the use of deadly force, the cowardly Lt. Byrd needs to be arraigned for the blatant murder that he committed.
