Obama Breaks out.. 30% to Clinton 22% Iowa

I will absolutely give you credit. I have to admit to giving up & giving in to the prospect of a Hillary candidacy, only to be heartened by polls like this.

They were talking about it on one of the cable shows last night; this is very bad news for Hillary, because her support, which is based more on name recognition & love for Bill Clinton, is basically maxed out. This could very easily turn into a wave for Obama....

I hope so!

Clinton still has the best organization nationally, and has the status quo machine behind her.

Hillary outdraws Obama in the black community
she is way ahead of him on the Nationals

There are many voters in California and other states who won't vote black.

Yeah, but those are the type of people who largely won't vote Democratic anyway. No matter who it is. So, its a wash.

I heard someone else say Edwards was the most progressive.
However, I think his unionboy status would kill him with the moderate voters. Too much of the economy is big corps. And with his anti-establishment vile hows he going to be bipartisan. It's not who hates the republicans the most wins the general, just Iowa and NH.

Have you been keeping touch with what the polls on union respect are in this country?

Your best candidate that would absolutely destroy Guliani is Richardson... but dems dont like him for some reason.

Oh the dilemma !!!

What is a good conscience democrat to do?

After all these years of democrats bashing republicans over the head about how racist and uncaring they are, and slapping republicans in the face with the "big tent" of the Democratic Party .. now when it comes time to show the courage of their convictions, they hesitate because "America is racist."

No shit?

Let's see, the worry isn't that republicans won't vote for Obama, they aren't voting for Hillary or Edwards either .. the worry is that democrats and independents won't vote for him

That's deep

So true.

It's actually kind of embarassing to walk into a classroom in the year 2007, and see all of the U.S. Presidents up to the present day on a wall, and realize that they are all white men.

this is what happened to Dean too. He was deamed "unelectable" by the democrats too fearful that he wouldn't fair well in the general election.

Personally, I'm sticking to my guns and voting for Kucinich and if God hates us all and we get stuck with Clinton vs any of the republicans I think I may go Green this presidential election. I can't tell you how disheartened all of the leading candidates make me.

enough of them won't. I'm not trying to be deep. I'm trying to avoid a Rudy Guliani President, because that is the end of this country, that's it. It's over.

And btw bac, Edwards has more progressive policies than Obama does. On health care alone, but across the board.

Yeah, I'm glad darla bumped this.

I'm a democrat, and I've never taken that position. The racists who are afraid to vote for a black man are repbublican-leaning voters anyway. I'm not worried about "losing" their vote. Those votes are lost no matter who the Dems put up.

I don't support Obama as my top choice, because I think Edwards is a better fit with my core values than obama.

It’s pleasant to believe that only republicans are racists. It makes us all feel good.
It’s complete and utter bullshit.

But…if I thought Obama was the best candidate I might take the chance anyway. But he isn’t. I’m a woman, I’d like to see the first female President. But Hillary is not the most progressive candidate either.

Yeah, I think Edwards is better than either obama or hillary. Quite a bit better, acutally.

I'm actually not that afraid of Obama losing because of a racist backlash. Maybe I'm naive. I certainly agree that his skin color is an obstacle to overcome. A major one. And some people won't ever vote for a black person. But, I think that obama, if he's at the top of his game, offsets that by bringing new people into the political process.

In short, I can see obama beating Grandpa Fred, Fossil McCain, or cross dresser Rudy. ;)

Applause!

If Democrats are actually strategizing voting against Obama because he's black and are afraid his skin color will stop people from voting. Shame on them, they already prove people won't vote for a black man by not allowing him past the primary....

Agreed.

I think many may like his ideas, they just see him as too boring and really are shooting for the candidate they would like to have a beer with. ;)

Nobody is "stragezing" against him.

I'm giving my opinion. He cant' win. Hillary can't win either, I don't think.

More than that, he’s not the best progressive candidate by a long shot and neither is she.

I do not hate you all my child.... just a select few... but because I detest them you must all pay the price of a President Hitlary.

I don't believe there are enough California voters that voted for Gore and Kerry in 00 and 04 that won't vote for Obama because he is black. Gore won California by 1.3 million votes and Kerry won by 1.2 million votes. I can't see even 50% of those people voting for the Republican because Obama is Black. California voters that will vote against someone due to their race vote republican anyway.
