Obama wins Nobel Peace Prize

the fact that you're doing google research and posting links is prima facia evidence that this is bugging the shit out of you.

Hey, if two time Bush voters want to cheer about the US losing the olympics, and crying like little girls about an american president winning a Nobel, knock yourselves out. It's an award, it's nothing more than that.

I don't pretend to have read all the statements the Nobel committee made about this. Although, evidently, a lot of Cons became instant experts on this topic without having read the entire text or statements of the Nobel Committee.

I think the world is just relieved that the man you voted for twice has been heartily rejected by the american people. I think you Bush lovers underestimate just how dangerous Bush made the world, and the criminality and immorality of his war on Iraq and his bullshit cowboy foreign policy.

what exactly has he done to deserve this award? what peace has he made anywhere on the planet?

Compare this to Greg Mortenson, nominated for the prize by some members of Congress, who the bookies gave 20-to-1 odds of winning. Son of a missionary, a former army Medic and mountaineer, he has made it his mission to build schools for girls in places where opium dealers and tribal warlords kill people for trying. His Central Asia Institute has built more than 130 schools in Afghanistan and Pakistan — a mission which has, along the way, inspired millions of people to view the protection and education of girls as a key to peace and prosperity and progress.

Here's what I hate most about this .. it rewards failure. Obama hasn't truly done anything but fail to live up to most of his promises and reward the banking industry for their failures.

NOW, they give him the Nobel Prize for doing nothing .. which only encourages more doing nothing. All he has to do is be charming, ignore critical issues and causes, waste more time courting republicans .. and the world will love him.

Obama is INCREDIBLY NAIVE and giving him the Nobel PEACE Prize for making speeches that do not match his actions does not bode well for the progressive movement.

In the end, Obama will demonstrate to the world that it wasn't just Bush they should fear .. they should fear America and its war machine and the corporatists who own us. The global progressive world isn't as happy about Obama as you may think.

Damn I have to get some work done. Have fun kids. This is too damn funny. It's a shame, but I have go rip-off some customers by giving them a bid. LOL

Any of you guys on Facebook? Most of my friends on there are Democratic/Liberal and there is some definite celebration but like here I'm even seeing some who say they like/voted for Obama but what has he done to deserve it.

Obama is saying its a 'call to action'. Kind of reminds me of broke rappers who rap about being rich and get rich as a result. The Nobel Committee thinking if we give him this award it will give him something to live up to and may affect his thinking on future actions (positively in their opinion).

I wonder when the Professional Bowlers Association is going to give him his Bowler of the Year Award.

LOL There's always next year.

The Nobel Org. is a socially liberal organization; it makes sense that they'd give the prize to Obama. It's not what he has done, but what he has portrayed in his words. He's been the proverbial American liberal apologist and the Nobel Org. loves to hate on America too...especially after Bush.

I'm not going to pretend that I know the motives of the Nobel Committe, unlike other posters who read three paragraphs of an article and have instantly become armchair experts on the topic. And I don't mean you, man.

It does seem out of character with past Nobel prizes. Who cares? The Nobel committee can set their own standards, those standards can be subject to change. and I don't know exactly what those motives or reasons were other than a few paragraphs in a new article. Obviously, this was debated in closed committee for days and weeks. I wasn't privy to it.

If there was some political motivation, so be it. If and when Obama escalates the Afghan war, it will make him look like a fool to be a Nobel laurette. So if there was any political pressure involved to hold him accountable, it's not the end of the world. I don't mind political pressure to stop unjust or unneccessary wars.

I can't speak for what other people around the world, or in Norway think of Obama. I think wingnuts totally underestimate how desparate the world was for someone who, at least marginally, would reject the cowboy nitwit warhawk policies of bush. If I was on the committee, I wouldn't vote to give him the prize. But it ain't my committe, and its not even an american committee. I really can't mind-read what their motives were.

For diplomacy around the world. I think I just heard a birthers's head explode. 7 more years.
Up to 209 posts, already! I know what I am about to read is going to be all about the hate!

There is so much for this man and it is just because!!!! No other reason, it is just because!

We are such a sad mess as a nation now! We can't even be proud when our President receive international praise! It use to be we would cheer as one, now look at us!

This is so sad, just shows how low we can go!

I don't believe he has done anything to deserve a Nobel .. or even anyone's "Best Citizen Award."

They gave him a PIECE of the prize for good speeches and best dressed.

Now when he actually does something for PEACE, they intend to give him the rest of the prize.

another reason the nobel prize is a joke....in order to be considered obama had to be nominated by feb. 1, 2009......a mere two weeks after taking office....

i wonder why no one can tell me what he has done to deserve this award? even cypress who relishes the award simply because he believes it makes the right angry, cannot name one single thing....

this is funny and i think it is actually going to harm obama in the long run....

they gave him the whole prize, i don't understand what you're saying...

That makes him the 4th US President to win the Prize and the second sitting President. I'm surprised and mildly shocked that this would come this early in his first term.
I am sure he is not as happy about this as he should be. Maybe the world is trying to send America a message through this award!!!

He knows this is just another piece of fuel to the fire!

Make Peace not War!

Considering that Obama has done.... NOTHING other than talk about peace.... I'd agree.
It is a helluva lot more than we have had in a long time! I am with the committee on this one!

I am proud of our President! This is going to show the world just how divided America has become, we can't even congratulate the man for this accomplishment! We become detractors!

We continue to show the world we are crumbing, united we stand, no longer applies!

Now, now, now. Such negative projection Froggie. No hate for Obama on this thread. Actually it has been a pretty good discusion and there have even been liberals on this thread who support Obama who don't think he should have been awarded this award 11 days into office.

Like you, I have no problem with using any tool, motivation, or even a Nobel Prize to further the interests of peace .. I'm just at a loss trying to see how this fits.

I think Obama is embarrassed by it because he knows he doesn't deserve it.

Perhaps the committee felt they could use it to keep Obama from getting any deeper involved in Afghanistan, but like you, I can't read their minds.

This is worth watching how it plays out.
