Obama wins Nobel Peace Prize

Reasonable people can disagree as to whether Obama deserved to win the Nobel Peace Prize. Whether he deserved it or not, the collective freak-out on the right makes me smile, smile, smile. What a bunch of jackasses.

I've not watched TV today. Who is freaking out?

Another retard. Damn you guys are just plain stupid. The "freak -out" as you call it amounts us laughing about the whole thing.

That's what makes it even funnier.
The Liberals can't see amusement, because they're so full of hate themselves.

Can you imagine the late night jokes? This award has done more to make Obama look like a junior league player who can't get an authentic woody if he wanted to than anything he's done to himself...i.e. the trip to grab the Olympics. It almost makes him a sympathetic character.

"Mr Obama becomes the third sitting US President to receive the prize. The committee said today that he had “captured the world’s attention”. It is certainly true that his energy and aspirations have dazzled many of his supporters. Sadly, it seems they have so bedazzled the Norwegians that they can no longer separate hopes from achievement. The achievements of all previous winners have been diminished. "

The Times is another Rupert Murdoch rag, what would you expect them to say?

This....I think precisely this. "Give him the award now and see what he does later..." is my guess.

The "he's not George Bush" folks are probably somewhat right too.

I would add that Obama got it right that the prize was not to him but to the American people, having survived 8 years of what Europe saw as a dangerous behemoth led by a quick-draw cowboy and his unprincipled gang.

Whatever makes you feel all warm and fuzzy, belme.

The world sees a person in the White House who even with a whisper of wind, will bend to keep his face in front of the camera and thus do their bidding.

The squeeze is on.

Amazing, the American Exceptionalists cheering the loss of the Olympic Games to Rio, ignoring the fact that 3 Americans won a Nobel Prize for Medicine yesterday, and "laughing" at the fact that their President won the Peace Prize today.
My friends you have exposed the phonyness of your self delusional RW patriotism.

The fear Europe had about bush at the wheel of the US government for the last 8 years was the deepest fear they have had from any government in the past 6 decades. It is a fact whether the fear was real or not. As you well know, so evident today, fear is easily turned to hate.

He won because the world believes they can get him to do their bidding. It bothers just enough people ON BOTH SIDES into suspecting they might be spot on.

I would have no problem whatsoever with Obama getting the Nobel Peace Prize if he actually did something to earn it.

He didn't and twelve days into the Presidency is all the proof necessary. This was a strategic move and you know it as well as the rest of us.

Fasten your seat belt.

so the only "accomplishment" we have listed so far is:

not being bush....

wow, how obama managed to do that is Omazing

If you mean they hope he will live up to their expectations now that the US has had a change in government, I would agree. I also hope he will live up to the principles of peace and a just society. I hardly believe, though, that a 5 man committee from Scandinavia will have much influence on the decisions of a US President. Will his decisions differ from those that bush might have made? I certainly hope and pray so.

The very nature of awarding all Nobel prizes, Peace or otherwise, is a subjective one. They are awarded to whomever a select 5 man panel judges to be the most deserving in their OPINION, if they award one at all. They owe no one an apology nor an explanation other than a very short one given with the award. This award is no different than in previous years. Obama managed to do nothing but being where he is at this time.
Had they given it to bush or McCain, the answer would have been the same, however, you and the other whiners would have had no problem with it.

you're wrong as usual....if they gave it to bush it would proved, just as this award did, that the prize is worth squat....the nobel and not just in the peace category, is nothing more than a political emmy....as obama said:

"Let me be clear: I do not view it as a recognition of my own accomplishments...."

even obama admits he has no accomplishments that deserve the prize....yet, you hail the prize being given to someone with no accomplishments worthy of the prize.....you and people like you devalue the prize and only show the world that there in fact a messiah/godlike complex about obama.....others however are more grounded in reality:

Some around the world objected to the choice of Obama, who still oversees wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and has launched deadly counterterrorism strikes in Pakistan and Somalia.

He won the Nobel Peace Prize for his GOALS.

Wtf?

Has anyone ever won a Nobel Peace Prize for what they planned to do?

Re-read what I said, particularly starting with "Obama managed". Where does that lead to the crap in your rant?
I'll repeat, had it been bush or McCain, you and yours would have been praising the award to the skies, which I did not, but, as usual, your foolish rant is misdirected and self serving, "Counselor".

Statement of Nobel committee on Obama choiceStory Comments Screener (15) Alert Email Print ShareBy MarketWatch
LONDON (MarketWatch) -- The following is a statement from the Norwegian Nobel Committee on the decision to award Barack Obama the Nobel Peace Prize. See full story.

The Norwegian Nobel Committee has decided that the Nobel Peace Prize for 2009 is to be awarded to President Barack Obama for his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples. The Committee has attached special importance to Obama's vision of and work for a world without nuclear weapons.

Obama has as President created a new climate in international politics. Multilateral diplomacy has regained a central position, with emphasis on the role that the United Nations and other international institutions can play. Dialogue and negotiations are preferred as instruments for resolving even the most difficult international conflicts. The vision of a world free from nuclear arms has powerfully stimulated disarmament and arms control negotiations. Thanks to Obama's initiative, the USA is now playing a more constructive role in meeting the great climatic challenges the world is confronting. Democracy and human rights are to be strengthened.

Only very rarely has a person to the same extent as Obama captured the world's attention and given its people hope for a better future. His diplomacy is founded in the concept that those who are to lead the world must do so on the basis of values and attitudes that are shared by the majority of the world's population.

For 108 years, the Norwegian Nobel Committee has sought to stimulate precisely that international policy and those attitudes for which Obama is now the world's leading spokesman. The Committee endorses Obama's appeal that "Now is the time for all of us to take our share of responsibility for a global response to global challenges."

Well, I hope this answers the question of the day "What did he do to get a Nobel Peace Prize"?

Quite frankly, I'm surprised that the neocons, who spent several years under the Shrub demonizing and dismissing European commentary, are so up in arms about this. I mean, it's a nice award and international acknowledgement, but it don't get the bills paid or put a lock on your door. King still got aced, Carter still gets shit for just about anything he does.

But hey, if gets our Allies to pony up some bucks and resources where and when needed in the next 3 years, then I'm all for it.
