It's always refreshing to watch leftist's meltdown with unhinged rants in the morning.

Just making more money for the Koch brothers. In the earliest days of Oil Sands extraction and refining in Canada, Canada was building its own refineries often funded by US backers.
The Oil Sands were NOT profitable to extract at that point but the need for Oil and gas in both Canada and the US was seen as so critical they pushed on under the belief that once at large scale extraction it would be profitable, which has proven to be true.
It was the US who made the case to Canada that they should focus on 'extraction' and allow the US to focus on refining as Texas was already building a lot of mega refineries and those could handle the dirty crude. The argument being that consolidating refining to them would lower their cost base and Canada would get back refined product cheaper than they could refine it themselves.
As this unburdened the Canadian market also having to finance refineries almost all new projects were shelved and the industry in Canada for refining became mostly niche.
It was an understandable mistake by Canada, which as a small population country would have struggled with the financing (even with private investors) but where if they did their own refining they would have all those really high paying and stable jobs and control of finished clean product they could sell to any country and not just the US who has proven to be an unreliable partner.

Have you read up on the NDB?I wish we had a miracle solution to utilize instead of oil and gas, to the incredibly high demands for energy that raising a world out of poverty demands, but oil and gas has been the foundational bedrock REQUIRED that gives us any hope to get to cleaner energy solutions.
Yes even once green energy can entirely carry the burden and fuel the non stop growth it will be a fight to shut down oil and gas, as rich embedded industries fight to keep going.

Nuclear diamond battery.
They use nuclear waste and turn it into a battery that would ( they say ) last 2500 years with NO charging needed.
IF and it is a big IF they can get it where they can make large enough batteries to run a car / power a house it will change the world as we know it.
As of right now they have really small ones and are working on bigger ones and trying to figure out how to mass produce them and get the cost down to a reasonable level.
Again it is an interesting subject and as I said IF they can get this all done it will change the world.
Can you imagine a battery that never needs charging for over a thousand years, a batter you can run you car on and your house, and when you aren't running your car you can plug it in and send power back into the grid?
A company in Cal. is working on it now and as I said they have very small ones out right now.
But the cost is very high they have to work on things like that.
