OK exports suffer

It's always refreshing to watch leftist's meltdown with unhinged rants in the morning.

In the earliest days of Oil Sands extraction and refining in Canada, Canada was building its own refineries often funded by US backers.

The Oil Sands were NOT profitable to extract at that point but the need for Oil and gas in both Canada and the US was seen as so critical they pushed on under the belief that once at large scale extraction it would be profitable, which has proven to be true.

It was the US who made the case to Canada that they should focus on 'extraction' and allow the US to focus on refining as Texas was already building a lot of mega refineries and those could handle the dirty crude. The argument being that consolidating refining to them would lower their cost base and Canada would get back refined product cheaper than they could refine it themselves.

As this unburdened the Canadian market also having to finance refineries almost all new projects were shelved and the industry in Canada for refining became mostly niche.

It was an understandable mistake by Canada, which as a small population country would have struggled with the financing (even with private investors) but where if they did their own refining they would have all those really high paying and stable jobs and control of finished clean product they could sell to any country and not just the US who has proven to be an unreliable partner.
Just making more money for the Koch brothers.

I wish we had a miracle solution to utilize instead of oil and gas, to the incredibly high demands for energy that raising a world out of poverty demands, but oil and gas has been the foundational bedrock REQUIRED that gives us any hope to get to cleaner energy solutions.

Yes even once green energy can entirely carry the burden and fuel the non stop growth it will be a fight to shut down oil and gas, as rich embedded industries fight to keep going.

Have you read up on the NDB?
Nuclear diamond battery.
They use nuclear waste and turn it into a battery that would ( they say ) last 2500 years with NO charging needed.
IF and it is a big IF they can get it where they can make large enough batteries to run a car / power a house it will change the world as we know it.
As of right now they have really small ones and are working on bigger ones and trying to figure out how to mass produce them and get the cost down to a reasonable level.
Again it is an interesting subject and as I said IF they can get this all done it will change the world.
Can you imagine a battery that never needs charging for over a thousand years, a batter you can run you car on and your house, and when you aren't running your car you can plug it in and send power back into the grid?
A company in Cal. is working on it now and as I said they have very small ones out right now.
But the cost is very high they have to work on things like that.

Yes i am aware of that and also there is another path to utilizing the nuclear waste that we either entomb and bury or use even more energy to try and keep forever cool and stable.

That is finding a way to deal with the radiation and negate that aspect while then using the heat generated to produce energy via steam and other methods.

"pipelines that feed oil refineries on the U.S. Gulf Coast."
So obvious question: you are a Canadian oil company, and your oil has gotten to the Gulf of Mexico, do you load it on a ship for China, or do you sell it to American refineries? Let's say it is a billion barrels(over a few years), and the Chinese are offering $80 a barrel, with the Americans offering $60 a barrel...

Are you really willing to lose $20 billion to support America? Remember in this hypothetical, you are Canadian, from a country trump says he wants to eliminate.

That was also well before the U.S fracking boom, and when OPEC still had the world by the neck. At the time, with oil well over $100/bbl tar sands seemed like a good alternative. I think fracking put an end to that dream, as tar sands is not the most efficient way to increase the supply of crude products to the market.

Between crypto and AI, our energy needs are expanding faster than the grids can produce electricity. Rather than force the billionaires who invest in these sectors to pay for the increased demand, power companies are demanding double digit increases from all of us.

I heard the same thing.
At least it won't be destroying the water supply millions of AMERICANS depend on if their pipe leaks.
Exactly. There was NO benefit to U.S citizens. The Texas refineries are multi national corporations that pay virtually no Federal taxes on what they export/produce. Supplying the sludge to the world market via China is no different than having it refined here.

Keystone XL pipeline nixed after Biden stands firm on permit

"Construction on the 1,200-mile (1,930-kilometer) pipeline began last year when former President Donald Trump revived the long-delayed project after it had stalled under the Obama administration. It would have moved up to 830,000 barrels (35 million gallons) of crude daily, connecting in Nebraska to other pipelines that feed oil refineries on the U.S. Gulf Coast."

Thanks to the idiot Biden, many good jobs were canceled because of the crying about global warming.

"Alberta invested more than $1 billion in the project last year, kick-starting construction that had stalled amid determined opposition to the line from environmentalists and Native American tribes along its route."

Clueless how the market works and who uses the oil

The power companies in this area started installing " smart meters " and a lot of people that got them have seem their bills double or more and are NOT happy at all.
Some of them are asking the PSC to investigate and see if there is something going on with these meters.
They are saying it is really funny that their bills doubled or more right after the company changed out the old ones for the " smart meters "

Same here during the fall/winter last year. People said the same thing, but we had single digit weather for more than a week at a time. That, and our rates are going up steadily. Check your KW hours, and check the rates.

Around here they would read the meter every other month, and rely in an estimated bill (based on last year's usage for that month) every other month. If it was warm last year, and frigid this year during January, etc., the estimated bill would be too low and compensation would be made during the actual read next month.

What makes you so stupid that you simply think they will make less money instead of just charging the customers more?

The history of business is costs go up, and businesses pass those costs on to consumers.

Taxes are one of those costs and tariffs are a tax.
Excellent and you dick mouths want to tax businesses into oblivion thinking it won't have a impact on consumers. You people are retarded assholes.
