Once again, Trump is being handed a good and growing economy on a silver platter

Well I know my daughter who just got a promotion at the VA Hospital here , she was head of women's affairs there for a couple of years and now is working as the head of the computer dept.
If they cut the VA funding who knows she may have to retire and she is lucky to have enough time in to at 48 years old.
Other wise she could be hurting.
I hope the best for her. My daughter is a Medicare specialist, her job relies on a grant. She is also worried about her job. Her husband works for a building supply company. They are all hoping for the best.

When eggs cost more money? LOL!
Well look at it this way we import 6 to 8 MBPD of oil that will also have a tariff on it and the cost of fuel will go up and that cost will be passed on to the consumer driving the cost of everything we buy up.
I don't have the link at this time but the CEOs of the oil companies have said Trumps tariffs could drive up the cost of gas and fuel a dollar a gallon, and as soon as they know how much those Tariffs are they will be increasing their price right away like the CEO of Walmart and Auto Zone have already said they would.
It is a fact if you bought it it or the parts that made it were on a truck some time in it's journey to you.

And why on Earth does the orange moron believe that we have drugs and "illegals" coming here from Canada anyways? I doubt if he's going to impose severe tariffs OR deport millions of people. We already deport criminal undocumented migrants, so that's nothing new.

Maybe because it's true?

More migrants are crossing the northern border into the U.S. as Mexicans fly to Canada and then head south

I would like to see tariffs selective, placed on goods we can produce here. If imported goods prices are raised to American made goods prices, that (should) create American jobs if consumers choose American made over imported goods.

Deport millions? Maybe, maybe not. Still, Border Patrol and ICE officials are upbeat since Tom Homan was appointed.

Border Patrol agents joyful over Trump’s return to White House: ‘We have hope’

They are overthinking it. It is simple Trump figured out that tariffs are great weapons. Trump believes in overpowering. He thinks he can use America's economic market to determine what other countries should do. The problem is tariffs are not one-sided. They can turn the screws here. They will counter him and in the end, the American citizens will suffer.
You have still yet to answer even once why you have said nothing about both Biden leaving in place Trump‘s original tariffs and adding additional tariffs of his own.

It’s a rhetorical statement to a degree because most likely your dislike of tariffs extends only to the person exercising them.

As I have said many of times if he does even 1/3 of what he says he is going to do it will cause a lot of harm to the people of the USA and we may never have the USA we grew up in ever again.
Just doing 1/3 of what he says he want to do will destroy this country.
Agreed. The big question here is "Will Trump break his campaign promises or will he carry them out to the applause of Vlad and Jinping?"

It's the Goldilocks Rule. Also like the Laffer Curve. Tariffs are good to prevent dumping, but to just apply them across the board to further an isolationist economy is fucking moronic.

You're fairly smart, Cawacko. Why can't you see this?

First term Trump said trade wars are good and easily winnable.

There are manufacturers who say they will move their business from China, but it won’t be to the USA, it will be to Cambodia or Vietnam. They won’t be bringing their factories back to the USA.
Of course they won't. Let's assume though that a number of shoe/clothing, household goods, and electronics manufacturers do move back here. It will take years to build facilities. They will have to pay at least prevailing local wages, if not more, to attrract workers. That means that whatever they produce is going to cost quite a bit more than jeans or Nikes or iPhones do now. Think the American people will be pleased with that?

I hope nothing bad happens to your daughter. There are probably a lot of Trumpers working at VA who are expecting lower egg prices

I think the issue there has to do with the more limited scope and size of the trump tariffs Biden left in place.

I think they were pretty much just on steel and possibly a couple of other raw materials, and that they were around 10% maybe. And only on Chinese imports.

This round, trump is talking about 25% across the board tariffs on everything, and he's got Canada and Mexico in the crosshairs.

Plus, the new proposed tariffs are not intended to correct trade imbalances. They are meant as punishment for unrelated issues, i.e. immigration and drugs.

48 is pretty young to retire, and one would be leaving a lot of money on the table by not letting the pension build up.
OH I agree 100%.
But if they cut her job , I don't know if they can, running the computer dept, they always need computers now a days. But if they do she can retire and still go do something else.
She did work at Children's Hospital as the head of the trauma unit on mid nights for awhile but seeing all the kids come in beat up and in bad shape burned her out on that job.
Again she could always go back and work in a hospital if she needed to.

If we were to go back and look at this board when Trump put the initial tariffs in place people here (liberals) hated them. But all the negative posts about them stopped once Biden took office.

I hate tariffs, with a passion, so I was actually encouraged when I saw so many liberals speak out against them (we have an area of bi-partisan agreement) but once they went radio silent under Biden I knew it was a (partisan) political thing.

The first clue is that Pedo Don has put RFK Jr in his cabinet thus doubling the moron factor.

Yes, illegals and drugs do come across the world's largest undefended border and, at 5525mi, almost 3 times the length of our border with Mexico.
While the costs for illegal workers traveling to the US will go up to the point that it's cost prohibitive for some, the terrorists and drug smugglers won't be deterred.

Additionally, most fentanyl traffic is brought into the US by US citizens through regular crossing points. Fentanyl is highly compact and easy to transport.

2022
Sixty percent of all fentanyl seized in the United States is found at U.S-Mexico border crossings in Southern California, according to Mariza Marin, who is port director at the San Ysidro Port of Entry between San Diego and Tijuana.

More than 65,000 vehicles cross the San Ysidro Port of Entry every day. Marin said they first saw fentanyl in 2008, and that it has skyrocketed since fiscal year 2019....

...They aren't just looking at where smugglers can hide the drugs, but also who can carry them. A trend of using minors at the point of entry has increased in the past few months. Marin said minors who come from "less economic means" are targeted in high schools and junior highs.

"These smuggling organizations are offering them for them what seems is a lot of money — $500, $1000. And tell them to put this in your pocket, put this in your backpack, and cross the border with it," she said.

Tunnels are also used to smuggle drugs into the United States. Earlier this year, a Homeland Security investigation uncovered a highly advanced tunnel stretching 1,700 feet from Tijuana, Mexico, to Otay Mesa, California.

That tunnel had electricity and small train tracks. Authorities have no idea how long it was in operation, who was running it, and how many others like it may be left.

All? Nice broadbrush. Consider this: there's always a concern when someone seeks to limit trade. Once those limitations are in place and the damage, or lack of it, is seen, then the concern drops. Most likely, those who complained about tariffs stopped complaining long before Biden took office since they saw the results were not catastrophic.

If you hate tariffs, why are you supporting more of them?
