Yes, mental health is included in those background checks. However there is no standard. One of the more common is a question about if someone has ever been involuntarily committed to a mental health institution.

I didnt defend him but it is possible he thought there was danger to him...it was dark, he didnt know who was out there. How do you know he knew they were kids?

Here you go and the drop down list shows that every state does background checks. Most if not all check for mental illness background. So if that's the case, why would the NRA pop its cork? Oh wait, it didnt. Ignorant state legislators tried, like you, to pass expensive 'feel-good' legislation that already existed and would accomplish nothing.

As you've been told many many times, that is part of the background check...what did you think they were for? They look for felony convictions, domestic abuse records, mental illness institutionalization, probably other stuff I dont know.

So? The laws are in place....if the state's legislators or governor choose not to diligently police the uploading of MH records into background check databases, that's a different issue.

And it affects much more than gun ownership...it affects childcare workers, health care workers, teachers, cop applicants, lots of things.

Has nothing to do with 'guns.'
