Pretty much how I feel about all large cities.
no, but the town is on tilt. In general though Oakland has a a high percentage of gun ownership. Not all legal of course but if guns scare a suburban kid in Mississippi he's not going to be a big fan of the city of Oakland.
not surprisingly the officer and his family have recieved death threats. He's supposedly sleeping at a different place each night.
The family of the victim has made public comments asking people not to riot and they don't want the violence. Yesterday on Facebook a couple of people who were friends with the guy who got shot said he was a religious peaceful man who would not want this violence going on either.
Feels like kind of a power keg at the moment.
The term you are looking for is powder keg.... dumbass USC grad
Oakland is the home of ebonics... i can spell it however I want to. You are the worse college football predictor ever.
Uh, African American Vernacular English doesn't involve spelling words however the writer desires.
Forgive the unwashed masses, but what is "the BART Police"?
Well, I can assure you we haven't had one person shot in the back while lying in the road, by cop or not. When they call the ambulance, we are the ones that respond. If they had shot anybody we'd have been called.
I think it may depend on where you are rural and minority rather than just all rural areas.
Just talked to a buddy who lives in downtown Oakland where all the action happened last night and he said he's watching the BART hearing live on TV and its getting ugly. He thinks more protest/violence may go down this weekend. Lord I hope not.
A taser and a gun feel much different.
Even a taser would've been excessive use of force, but pulling out the gun is just an incredible act of violence that was completely unnecessary. I just have no idea what was going through that cops head. Maybe he just wanted to kill a "disrespectful black kid".
BAC also agreed with me. It's regional. I never heard the term uttered aloud except in movies until I went to Rockford, IL. Which to me is a large city.BAS is absolutely right. I come from a small town. Hell they can't even refer to black people as anything other than nigers. Which is amazing cause there are NO BLACK PEOPLE IN THE TOWN.
In the small town I grew up in they used to have a sign at the city limits that said "Niger Don't let the Sun Go Down on You". It was only removed in the 60's. This wasn't in Alabama either. It was northwest Ohio.

Rockford is the second largest city in Illinois. At least it was when we went. Maybe it changed.I get upset when I hear people play small town/rural values vs "the city folk" values.
I've lived large parts of my life in both and it's been my observation that human nature is pretty much the same where ever you live or as the Boss so eloquently said on 60 Minutes. "There are Saints and assholes on every block."
Rockford a large City? Man you are out in the boonies. I grew up in a farm town of about 3,000 people. It was pretty boring there.
