President Trump

You mean like they did after Reagan was elected? You're not old enough to remember but Reagan was a joke to the Establishment GOP until he made huge inroads in the South. In early 79 the idea of an old B-list actor being President was one great big joke.

Not to the Iranians.

Not to the Iranians.

Are you kidding the Iranians chose Reagan. They knew if they held the hostages until after the election they would get Reagan, if they released them they would get to keep Carter. They chose Reagan.

Because Carter was so much stronger than Reagan? Because the muslimes feared Carter would bomb them into oblivion?

The lies you lefties tell yourselves never ceases to amaze me

Because, as we now know, the Reagan Administration was willing to cut deals with the Iranians.

They wanted someone they could work with, and (rightfully or wrongly) Carter refused. Reagan's toughness on the Iranians was a show.

You've said things like this in the past; but just like in the past, you continue to fail to provide anything from that time period to support your ASSumptions.

Actually most of the stuff said about Reagan equally applies to Trump.

That was after he won the nomination and election. The public largely scoffed at the idea of Reagan being President in the run up to the primaries. The GOP establishment was flabbergasted when he did. I also remember that many people who consider themselves die hard conservatives voted against Reagan. Particularly working class white males who were union Democrats and Catholics who were Kennedy Democrats. The GOP didn't start making serious in roads with those groups till towards the end of his second term.

You see that reflected in the pop culture of the time. Lots of movies from the late 70's and early 80's that made fun of Reagan, a washed up B-List actor, becoming or being President. Much of that came from establishment Republicans.
