Proof the Right Has No Idea What The Debate is About

I don't know. Nobody is required to have health insurance (except in Massachusetts).

How many drivers choose not to have auto insurance?

How many homeowners choose not to have liability insurance?

Dude I showed you a law regulated by Medicare/ Medicaid that inflicts regulatory burden on private insurers that was very onerous and only covered on small aspect of health care.

A law which Medicare and Medicaid are also bound to, which makes my point for me.

Basically, they ask, "Who here opposes any government run health care?"

Everyone raises their hands.

Then the Rep. asks, "Who here is on Medicare?"

And about half of them raise their hands.

I'm not surprised at all by this.

We're talking about republicans. Republicans who not just once, but twice elected a leader of their party who is infamous for saying:

"Liberals want to run Social Security, like it's some sort of government program!!!"

Why don't you know? Lots of folks don't want it, and you are forcing them to pay for something that they don't want.

that happens in America all the time. Childless couples and singles and seniors pay property taxes in their communities that go to pay for the school system for which they get no direct return. big deal. that is what beng a part of a "community" requires of us all. Don't like it? Fucking move somewhere else.

You actually bring up a good point, one that I've brought up hundreds of times.

I used to live in a community that charged what I considered exorbitant taxes for real estate, and I moved out mainly because of that.

So if you want to live in a community that has socialized medicine, more power to you. But if I want to live in a community that gives me the freedom to not to pay for such a service, then I should be able to.

Isn't that the American way?

sure... move out of America. no one is stopping you. Hell... I'll throw you bon voyage party.

sure it is...if you don't like the direction the country is headed, you've got three choices:

1. move
2. change it
3. get used to it.
Wouldn't the "American Way" actually be abiding by the Constitution, and keeping the Federal government out of our personal lives?

By what authority does the Federal government claim in order to provide health insurance?

provide for the general welfare.

don't like it, you got three options.... pick one.

There are specific powers that the Federal Government has in order to provide for the General Welfare, direct forays into health care insurance is not one of those powers.

What is most disturbing to me is the interference into privacy. I cannot see how even one lefty cannot understand that such power in the hands of somebody even slightly more authoritarian could be problematic, especially if one does "change" it and say abortion, for instance, becomes illegal.
