Proud to serve my country!

Outside of the minority of people who voted for Bush twice and spent a message board career defending him, most people think their taxes are fair. Not too many people like paying taxes for an illegal war ,or for torturing muslim prisoners (well, maybe tea bag partiers are cool with that). Nobody likes a pentagon defense contractor using a government credit card to party at a strip club.

But on balance, we get a lot of bang for our buck. Some dudes on this board are collecting unemployment benefits to cushion the shock of being jobless. Hell, I might need that myself someday. I drive on excellent interstate highways to my Marxist job. Teabaggers in Florida have an excellent National Weather Service that monitors incoming hurricanes. Republicans in Louisiana scramble to get federal relief when their homes are flooded. My money in the bank is federally insured against evaporating in a bank collapse. I'm guaranteed good medical care when I'm an old fart, even when private insurance companies won't touch me with a ten foot pole.

In short, for all the tea baggery and whining about taxes, the system on balance provides a pretty decent public commons, and insurance against complete destitution. Try living in Somalia if you don't like paying taxes.

A new CBS News/New York Times poll finds 62 percent of respondents believe the income tax they have to pay is fair, while only 30 percent called it unfair. “Majorities across all income groups, moreover, called their income tax fair.”

Even a majority of those identifying themselves as Tea Party supporters said their taxes are fair.

Ahh Somalia, the Libertarian paradise!

Hey, I am a patirot, what can I say!

If I were called to Jury Duty id be excited also.

I dont like to whine about serving my Country, I am proud to be called to do it!

And of course you showed great outrage at Obama and the 10 or 12 or 14 people he appointed to his inner circle that failed to pay their fair share of taxes ....like Tim Geithner, etc. and don't forget Sen. Daschle & Sen. Rangel
.
.
.
Well, actually, no you didn't, did you

Yes, thanks to Reagan and Bush, we do think our taxes are fair, or at least fairer than they would be....

Yea I hear you.....If paying taxes is the measure of patriotism then I don't want to be too patriotic! LOL

That's one thing I do admire about the French. No one knows how to cheat on their taxes like a Frenchman! I think they invented the idea.
The French do a lot of things right, so they ain't all bad.

One of the last of the compulsary duties of an American, paying your taxes. I am proud to do my part at keeping America strong, its a duty that pales in comparison to joining the armed forces, but its what I can contribute to this great nation.

I am proud to do my part! What I get back pales in comparison to what I have to give....!

Thank God I was born in the USA!

if patriotism is defined as paying your taxes, why did our ancestors break away from england? and when you answer that question, why are you proud to be born here?

You are missing half the equasion...

It was "Taxation without representation" that caused the problems with England, our patirot forfathers were not whining about taxes, they were whining about taxes being imposed when they had no right to vote or choose a representative.

I imagine they were as impressed as I am.
That's not the point. When the IRS had two separate offices with letter and phone-bots on my ass trying to collect $250 I finally called my Congressman, told them that, and they agreed. I then got a call from an actual person at the IRS who had to explain in detail what the additional money was for.

The Southern Man demands accountability.

so when a majority of the american people tell their representatives that they don't want a certain piece of legislation passed, yet they do anyway, is that still representation or not?

Where in the world did Jarod's last post come from? It's too 'out there' to even be considered left field.

Best dump your bonds and T-bills, and divest overseas my friend. If you haven't already. The shit is about to hit the fan :pke:

I heard that from Republicans back in 1992 and ignored them, Im gunna ignore that shit again this time.
