I have never been involved with it personally, but, I have enough sense to know that if one were to face criminal charges, hiring a reputable lawyer from a reputable firm is better than taking your chances with a State appointed lawyer.

Unless you are wealthy at the time of your arrest, you should be happy to have an appointed attorney. You might also know, that at the time of your arrest, a public defender is all that you will get. Do you carry the card of a criminal defense attorney in your wallet? A public defender will be assigned when you demand an attorney. You will be billed later if the court determines that you can afford an attorney.

So, yes, if I were in police custody, and did not know the phone number of a criminal defense attorney, I would take the available public defender. It is highly unlikely that a private criminal defense lawyer will take your call at 2 AM.

Reality: The great society programs, i.e., the left wing war on poverty......has created a culture where there exists generational welfare while removing the father from the family core. There are more people of color in the prison system because the left has helped create MORE poor criminals through their welfare system. Its not rocket science. :bigthink: The prisons are overpopulated with poor left wing democrats.

Jails are full of poor people, the forgotten people, those without opportunity and hope get desperate. It takes those who cannot afford a good lawyer or one at all.
Poor people get slammed for petty mistakes too. A poor person gets a ticket and cannot get up the money to pay for it. Then a warrant is issued. Then he gets pulled over and it off to jail. His traffic offense has suddenly cost him his freedom and bankrupted him at the same time. Bail favors those with money.
OJ beat the crime because he had money. Wealthy people get away with so much more than poor people do.

Indeed.....the progressive left destroyed the poverty stricken nations around the globe via promoting in vouge left wing objectives. The left ignored the 10s of thousands of deaths by fascist regimes by beheadings...it seemed that black lives really don't matter to a leftist. The left help bring back the once eradicated disease of Malaria by presenting fake supposed studies of the agent used to kill of these diseases caused by the bite of insects like the mosquito......they faked studies declaring that DDT would cause cancer in humans because they gave lab rats 500 times the dose that would be considered normal in combating mosquitos.

The left has caused starvation through promoting the fake Global Warming hoax.....perverting the worlds bread basket, Middle America and turning that world food source into a alt supposed green energy source.

Most places have pre-release programs that release non-violent offenders with ties to the community from jail without bail.

You mean they do now. But even those are just beginning. There are millions of people in jail for non-violent offenses and crimes they pleaded to. How many for weed?
