Question for people who want both universal healthcare and open borders

StoneByStone

It's OK to Be White
Is this possible? Would it not cause more illegal immigration and third world immigration in general, making it impossible to cover everyone living in America?

Is there anyone who wants open borders?

In the Democrat primary debates, they all criticized Biden for being VP and not doing anything to stop Obama from deporting ILLEGAL immigrants. Biden himself distanced himself, saying he was "only the vice president" which was hilarious.
None of them used the term "open borders," but if you're allowing anyone to come here, then that is open borders.

Yes, was very sad watching them be kowtowed by ramos....... ramos did his deed fairly well...

Anyone can goggle pelosi, fienstein etc talking about keeping them out/restrictions etc & in the age of trump & ramos the party has pandered quite a bit in the direction of open immigration... There are is no shortage of problems & shithole countries filled w/ impoverished masses longing to be free but the real question is that a good reason to allow them in??

The dem party seems to be leaning towards the answer~yes...

Does anyone think they aint gettin free care already??

Since reagan signed into law that hospitals can't refuse to serve ppl in emergency situations it changed dramatically........

You have any idea how many folks from all over the world come here & then show up @ the public hospital after they suddenly realize after being here a few days that they desperately need surgery?? Not even to mention those that came here illegally, simply over stayed, elderly etc living w/ extended families that don't pay for their care??

Oddly enough, or not, when I hear arguments about HC costs I rarely ever hear this discussed. Does anyone actually know what the costs are?? We know it aint fuckin free!!!!

I have met exactly zero people who want open borders. Our borders and coastlines should be controlled and monitored to prevent criminals, terrorists, and others who desire to illegally infiltrate from getting in

Who is gonna pay for their care??

What would you guess the costs are to the average county, state, & fed??

Tax payers pay .... go into any ER and you will see what is going on !

They all have more social workers in there than Dr’s and nurses .

Btw .... I’m in California. What a mess !

(Libertarian) Economist Bryan Caplan wrote a book in support of open borders. The description of the book:

""Economist Bryan Caplan makes a bold case for unrestricted immigration in this fact-filled graphic nonfiction.

American policy-makers have long been locked in a heated battle over whether, how many, and what kind of immigrants to allow to live and work in the country. Those in favor of welcoming more immigrants often cite humanitarian reasons, while those in favor of more restrictive laws argue the need to protect native citizens.

But economist Bryan Caplan adds a new, compelling perspective to the immigration debate: He argues that opening all borders could eliminate absolute poverty worldwide and usher in a booming worldwide economy―greatly benefiting humanity.""

So most people in the U.S. are going to say they are against that. I understand you're arguing Biden speaking out against the Obama Administration deporting so many people and Democratic Presidential candidates arguing we should relax penalties on those caught trying to cross illegally as 'open borders'.

But ultimately we don't address the underlying cause. It's a combination of the desire of people to come here to improve their lot in life and our desire for cheap (often unskilled) labor. There needs to be a fundamental change in how we address immigration and just putting a wall up isn't going to do it.

So am I.......

My X gf's son n law worked for several weeks interning in Stockton, ca.... Stories he told were quite sad & frustrating but he did his job to help ppl & not stress about it..

He said after the first week or so he was catching on-all the same story, just got here & op's I need surgery........ Needless to say they returned back home after w/out paying their bills, no family paid them even if they stayed........ Rich uncle sam will take care of it, surely he won't mind doing so for my precious 90yr old gramma from the old country..

aka glutting the labor pool with cheap labor. we say no.

I don't know how many people actually want open borders, but if the leading Democrats all want this, then there must be a sizable amount of people who feel the same way.

Based on how many people are in America right now and how bad inequality is, it certainly seems like both free healthcare and UBI are possible. We could redistribute wealth in the form of social programs and still have a rich 1%. But allow the entire world to come here AND let them know they'll get free healthcare, I can't imagine we'd still be able to spread the wealth enough to cover everyone.

I've never met anybody that wants open borders, so I can't speak for them, but I do believe medical care should be given to anybody that needs it. This really isn't controversial. Even Ronald Reagan accepted it to some extent; he signed EMTALA into law, which prohibits hospitals from denying emergency treatment based on one's ability to pay.
