The government requires cell phone service providers to tax users and give this money to the government, who then redistributes the funds to provide free OBAMAPhones. They are called this because Obama expanded the program from what used to provide low income people a landline at a fixed low cost.

Neither the President nor the government has anything to do with the free phone program.
To associate his name with it is an attempt to promote the racist lie that, the black president is giving free phones to poor black people to repay them for their votes, as purported by Limbaugh and other racists.

Where has anyone said it is something used to pay blacks back for their votes? You idiots have already stated that blacks vote Democrat overwhelmingly. There is nothing to pay back. Blacks already do what you say we claim the phones are designed to do.

This specific program, SafeLink, started under President George Bush, with grants from an independent company created under President Bill Clinton, which was a legacy of an act passed under President Franklin Roosevelt, which was influenced by an agreement reached between telecommunications companies and the administration of President Woodrow Wilson.
