I bet your special-ed student's parents would find your use of the term "retarded" rather offensive.
How about it liberals, is this a derisory term in your world ? It is in mine. My step mother (an ex special-ed teacher would smack me into next week if I were to say such things.
Is this the sort of "teacher" you want for the developmentally challenged ?

"nice move, SLIC"
I moved it to general politics. I personally find the term offensive and cringe when people use it.Phanty, if my thread title is no good, you are free to change it and warn me in PM.
"Mpox is better than monkeypox because it still contains 'pox', which speaks to the physical nature of the disease," Nsofor told NPR on Monday. "Removing 'monkey' removes the stigma that monkeypox comes with and deals with the possible misinformation" about how it's transmitted, he added, as it might falsely suggest monkeys are the main source of spreading the virus to humans.
So clearly they did not say the name was racist. Only racists would say that.
What say you, racists? Yes I am talking to you.
I pointed it out in a different thread last night. Is the APL troll claiming to be a teacher now? I don't believe that one.
The silence from the standard "woke" virtue signalers is a perfect example of their phoniness.
Sliced and diced again.

Now that computers constantly monitor the timing in our cars, there's one less reason to use the term in a sentence.I moved it to general politics. I personally find the term offensive and cringe when people use it.
No, why is it so hard for people to respect others? I just don’t get it. “It neither picks my picket nor breaks my leg” to honor people and how they wished to be referenced. If terms helps to remove stigma, what harm is done? Now that computers constantly monitor the timing in our cars, there's one less reason to use the term in a sentence.
Unless the discussion is technical in nature.
The APA constantly twists itself into knots trying to come up with 'less offensive' terms.

Ironically, the number one misdiagnosis for BPD is depression.
Similarly, Addiction is now Dependence.
I won't even start on pronouns, because I don't know which ones apply anymore.
If someone is they/them, do they pay income taxes twice?
You and I will never agree on the issue of men competing against women in scholastic sports. No, why is it so hard for people to respect other? It does indeed 'pick the pocket' of young women when they miss out on scholarships because they are losing to men who demand to be 'referred to' as women.
You sling insults all day long but become self-righteous about being called a retard?
Exactly...they would not...not ever.....I started my career in Special Ed as a swimming coach...and went on to teach...and coach...When I started, the classification was Developmentally Handicapped...Trust me, no teacher would ever use that word....
A real teacher also wouldn't put thanks on the posts of those who use that word, would they, "teacher"?

Because certain bigots are terrified that if they use the wrong pronoun or utter a slur, they'll be called out for it. That's why the War on Woke is recruiting so many soldiers these days. They want to say what they want to say with no consequences or responsibility.
Very unprofessional and completely unacceptable...even if he or she is not a Special Ed teacher...Don't wait for the condemnation from the liberals here...And that being said, this is not a current event....
Speaking of the cognitively-challenged...that's me:
