Wasted money is wasted money...schools misuse enough funding as it is..Well I have no idea how much it would cost to change the names so I cannot answer that.

Wasted money is wasted money...
EverywhereYep true. We have too much of that in Washington D.C.
Wow. Again, this has nothing to do with states rights or questioning the legality of schools changing their names.
I addressed the issue in my first sentence. It’s about the racial reckoning occurring in our country. Will changing the name of a school named after an explorer from two hundred years ago have a material difference in young children learning?
Dodging bullshit. You obviously think State's Rights only apply to the shit you believe in, not what anyone else believes in. That's unAmerican, dude. That's that authoritarian bullshit the Democrats keep shoveling. You are no different than them; same shit, different horse.
I went to 'Lemon Avenue Grade School'. Maybe that's the solution. Just pick something generic, like a street name. Something that is not controversial. Maybe 'Public School # 356' ?
Hundreds of examples of trivia like this occurring across the country but nothing about working on police tactics that would result in fewer deaths which I thought was the whole point.
It's their right. Their city. The students have the right to protest if they don't like it, naturally.
Police tactics are at the forefront but the movement has widely expanded to all forms of 'equity' in this country. Racial reckoning is the term I often hear used and this would be an example of it. At the end of the day are certain kids being held back because they go to a high school named after a 16th Century Spanish explorer (Balboa High School)? Or Diane Feinstein Elementary School?
LOL, WTF?! What name did you post under previously because this is clearly personal.
The schools have a right to change their names, that's not at issue. I posted this because this is an issue being debated in San Francisco but it's also happening in other cities. Because they can change their names doesn't necessarily mean it's a good thing to do or that all people support it. This is a discussion board, if you don't care about the issue or don't want to discuss it then don't.
(But yeah, I'm unAmerican and authoritarian for discussing a current political event. Great call.)
How is it costly?
All new stationary and forms.
Updating computer systems.
Signage.
Uniforms.
Spiritwear.
Research for new names as well as money already spent indntifying ones.
Doesn't mean the names need to be changed though
I couldn't care less about names. Names have nothing to do with education.
For all I care, they could call a school, "The School of Retards".
Nothing personal. Shit is shit and I'm free to call it as I see it. The key being whether I can prove it or not. The fact you are so pissed indicates you feel guilty enough to be angry. You and I both know you are whining about the actions of one of the nation's most liberal cities in one of the nation's most liberal states. Do you really think your neighborhood is about to become infected with Liberal Cooties?
Most Republicans don't wear masks...a good reason 70% of Americans aren't fucking Republicans. Why do you think they are shitting themselves about Liberal Cooties but think COVID-19 is no worse than the flu?

I'm pissed? Really? You know this how? I don't agree with it but one can disagree with something and not be pissed. And, novel concept, one can have a discussion about an issue and not be pissed.
If you don't want to discuss the topic that is 100% your right but why are you on here trolling the thread? You have George Orwell speak claiming its un-American or authoritarian to have a discussion on a current event. Your last paragraph has nothing to do with with topic. Nor is the topic a simple right/left issue. There are plenty of people in SF who are political progressives who don't agree with these proposals to rename the schools.
And as stated in the OP it's part of the broader 'racial reckoning' this country is going through. If you don't want to discuss it that's fine just don't respond.
Doesn't mean the names need to be changed though
