Section 4 - Unconstitutional!

So, could say, Alabama go back to requiring a poll tax or a literacy test for voting?

Oh, fine. That should wipe out all eligible Alabama voters!

Its a victory for our rights....even YOUR rights.

You mean the rights of white males, right?

I really don't understand how.

Texas has already announced it's going to institute a voter ID law. The entire Republican campaign strategy in recent years has had as its centerpiece keeping blacks and hispanics away from the polls. This is their biggest effort to hold into power in the face of changing demographics - to keep Americans from voting.

I know that the goon squad will scream and yell "Link us up!" (go fuck yourself, preemptively), but I would think you were awake for recent years and knew what was going on.

Already!

In the meantime, Texas, natch, is already hard at work to keep the buhlacks from voting. Like within hours after the decision.

http://www.nationaljournal.com/poli...er-id-law-after-supreme-court-ruling-20130625

Just hours after the Supreme Court handed down a ruling that guts parts of the Voting Rights Act, Texas is moving forward with a controversial voter ID law that state Attorney General Greg Abbott hopes to implement right away.

"With today's decision, the state's voter ID law will take effect immediately," Abbott said in a statement to the Dallas Morning News. "Redistricting maps passed by the Legislature may also take effect without approval from the federal government."

The Texas law requires voters to show photo identification to vote -- a measure that was blocked by the Justice Department, arguing the law could discriminate against racial minorities. At the time, Attorney General Eric Holder called the law a "poll tax."

That's not really what the Court decided and, in any event, the 15th Amendment is pretty damn clear. There ain't no givsies-backsies clause, at least not in my copy of the Constitution.
and there isn't any websters clause that says 'shall not be infringed' actually means 'reasonable regulations', but it still happens, don't it.

Typical liberal bullshit. Asking for EVERYONE to show an ID at the polls when we use IDs so often in everyday life is not equivalent to 'keeping blacks and hispanics from the polls'. There are far more poor white people in this country than poor black & hispanic people. Yet you seem to think those poor black and hispanics are the only ones that 'can't afford' the ID. Why is that Darla? You do realize the poor black and hispanic people for the most part live in urban areas, not rural or suburban. They have access to mass transit, whereas the poor white rural people don't. Which of those groups do you think would have a harder time getting to a DMV location?

Your liberal attempts to paint voter ID as racist is simply a bullshit tool you use to try and shut down the conversation. So take your own advice and go fuck yourself.

I would like to also know how these people survive, with no ID's.
They have to provide ID's to sign up for food boxes, for enrolling in the foodstamp program, to partcipate in Section 8, to cash a check, to drive a car, to get a job, etc.

This more and more is beginning to look like they're hoping the ID issue fails; because that way those inelligable to vote will be able to and hopefully only a small number of them will be caught and their vote disqualified.

based on scotusblog statistics page - who has done decisions so far. People looking at that think Roberts will do Prop8... but hard to predict the future is
Depends on the vote and where Kennedy comes down on both of them. I cannot see Roberts voting to overturn prop 8 or DOMA. However, in the past, Chiefs have voted with the majority so they can assign the opinion to them self and water down the overall strength of the opinion. Burger was famous for it. If the Chief is in the minority, then the senior justice for the majority gets to assign the opinion.

That's been explained a few hundred times on here. If you're so stupid you don't know the answer to your own question, you shouldn't be allowed to vote either.

requiring a voter ID isn't racist.........personally I expect that high hurdle to keep most Democrats away from the polls, regardless of race......shucks, even after being instructed they won't be able to figure out how to face the camera.....

So here is my solution. The democratic party, Soros and whomever else needs to start taking people RIGHT now to get ID's, They take those very same people to register to vote, and to vote. I know it sucks, but it is what it is. Grab these people and get them valid ID's, and then tell Texas to fuck the fuck off.

I swear to god, sometimes I think that modern liberals would have been to lazy to win the civil rights movement. "Why do we have to go out and march for our rights? It's hot in Selma this time of year and the dogs bite too hard." Sometimes beating these fuckers takes work. And don't fool yourselves, if voter ID laws didn't adversely affect democratic voters Republican controlled states wouldn't try to pass them.

Thanks, Howey, then I won't bother going in to it again if it's already been explained.

USF, get out of the house! find out about the world around you. Don't be a hikikomori

Well, they did that last time - in Florida, in Pennsylvania. While fighting the laws in the courts and whatnot, they did a big push to get people registered properly. When Florida cut way back on early voting, they worked on getting people to the polls. And look what happened in Florida - Obama won it. I believe he took Pennsylvania also.

Don't piss people off by trying to take away their voting rights. You can make it harder, but it just makes them much more determined to vote.

It hasn't been explained.
What it has been is avoided, by the left.

It would appear as if you're the one who needs to get out of your parents house and stop being such an emo.

So you obviously paid zero attention to the whole Pennsylvania attempt to institute voter id laws... the number of people affected... that the DMV places in some counties were only open four hours a week... that it would have taken the state longer to process ids for everyone than there was time before the election.

Read up on the case against the Pennsylvania laws, and then maybe you might learn why these laws discriminate against the poor and the elderly. And because a higher percentage of poor people are minority it has a disparate impact upon minority voters.

That's what voting rights act was about - ensuring laws passed did not have a disparate impact on minority voters. It's not a question of whether the rule is applied to all voters; it's whether it will keep more minorities from voting than it would non-minorities from voting.

So yes, voter ID is racist - it has a disparate impact on minorities. Also on poor and elderly, but the voting rights act was concerned with racism.

election 2016 is 3.5 years from now. People have a really good head start.

You have a habit of contradicting yourself don't you? One minute these laws make it harder for the blacks to vote. Then you claim it pisses them off to vote even more
