Stick with Samsung or ViewSonic - it's worth the extra few bucks for the quality.

Here is a Samsung 19" W LCD for $169.99 after rebate:

Avoid off-brand monitors.

That's NOT the best monitor on the market. The one I proposed is in no way an off-brand monitor, and it is way more professional. It costs 1600 dollars after all.

This is my system. My monitor is the 21 inch version of the one shown, but I don't really know anymore than that.

Watermark: I'm referring to consumer monitors, which would best suit Epicurus or just about anyone else, for that matter. I didn't even click on your links. But, thanks anyway.

I'll be buying the 22" for my new gaming rig in the next few weeks. I'm going for the Intel Core 2 Duo E8400, a 780i-based mobo (probably EVGA), 8GB memory, and two GTX 260s. For storage, I'll have four Seagate 500GB drives in a RAID-5 configuration, with Windows Vista Ulimate 64-bit to top it off. It's gonna scream. :)

Actually, I'm still deciding between RAID-0 and RAID-5.

The benefit of RAID-5 is redundancy, but at the expense of the capacity of one drive.

The benefit of RAID-0 is I don't lose the capacity of one drive, but if even one of the four drives fail, I'm screwed. That's the downside. :p

you really think 8gb is necessary? 4 is probably overkill.

4 is nice in my laptop. 8 would be nice if heavy into graphics intensive gaming. Or video editing.

I want a terrabyte of ram :clink:
heck with that mechanical storage.

Either 4 or 8 - I haven't decided.

It depends on whether I buy this or this. If the former, I can justify throwing in another 4GB for a total of eight. If the latter (for extreme performance), I'd hold off and stick to 4GB - it's currently too expensive.

Two GTX 260s is probably overkill, too, but at least I won't have to upgrade during the life of the computer. All of my systems in the past have been mid-range. This time around, I want something really nice.

Four GB is still very good, especially for a notebook.
(In fact, I haven't heard of a notebook with over 4GB)

I agree about the magnetic storage. Thankfully, change is on the way! ;)
