It will never happen if free markets are left to work on their own. Socialism will get that result of wealth imbalance much quicker because growth will come to a screeching halt and pretty soon there is less to go around. The few who decide who get what will make certain they get theirs first.

The problem is that the safety net is 7 layers thick, and there is no fear of failure. Our government has created and enabled an entire sector of the population to rely on it for life itself. Uncle Sam has created a bunch of bums.

You say you're 89. You grew up and worked in a time when government assistance was an embarrassment and folks only took it if they absolutely needed it. No dad ever wanted his kids to see that he was unable to provide, and he'd do any work to get off the food stamps ASAP. Working to provide was far more honorable than getting a free handout. Today, assistance if perfectly normal and acceptable. Low income earners are told they can't do it without help. When they hear it enough, they believe the lie and get to a point of not even trying.
