Like I said, weak people hit their kids. Its a sign to total weakness and buffonery, IMO. If you can't handle your kids without hitting them, you lack good parenting skills. I never got hit, and I've never had to hit a kid.

I wholeheartedly disagree. What works for some kids doesn't necessarily work for others. If a parent who's ultimately responsible for the actions of their kids deems it necessary spank, then that's their perogative. If the spanking is abuse then I'd agree that the gov't has to step in.
Well, if you're going to take on the responsiblity to clothe me, pay for my mortgage, feed me and take full financial responsibility for all of my actions (legal and illegal) then we'll talk.

I don't think in this entire thread I've passed judgement on the legislation. I haven't even read it, so I can't. It would depend on a whole host of caveats and waivers, if they are codified.
I'm just saying that in my experience, any competent parent finds it unneccessary to hit their kids.
I didn't say it gave someone the "right" to hit anyone. I said, then we'll talk. To assume that any random 2 adults have the same relationship as a parent and child is ridiculous.

Kind of like the law in Arizona, still on the books, that says you may not hit your wife with any rod wider than the width of your thumb. Or, you may only hit her 3 times a month.
