Teacher's neck broken over iPod...

I can't see it from work anyway, but is there footage of the kid actually breaking the teacher's neck? How old is the kid?

This is why I think we need to rethink our entire school system. I know people don't like this idea, but if teachers are going to continue to have little to no disiplinary powers over the kids, yet some how be responsible for them, we should think about being able to kick kids out of the public school system indefinitely and let their parents be responsible for their education.

No, they didn't show footage. It was an 8th grade math teacher. The kid was 14.

They had four teachers that had been attacked, they interview them and speak about the rise in violence at schools towards teachers.

It is a felony in Pennsylvania to attack a teacher, three of the four attacks were successfully prosecuted.

I agree. In the video they explained that since the attack 140 kids had been moved to a different school. I'd assume they may have a school specifically designed for dealing with such intransigents.

It is time to bring back the disciplinary powers. Bring back the paddles with the holes in them.... kid hits teacher... teacher allowed to beat the crap out of the kid. If the parents bitch afterwards... knock the crap out of them too for failing in their parental responsibility to teach their kids respect for authority.

Is it the Auschwitz school for re-education?

The WOK must continue!

Of course it is clear all the violence in video games, movies and TV have no effect whatsoever on our children.
also no child under 16 should be allowed martial arts training.

Ridiculous. Almost all Martial Arts training teach a discipline that would not be found within those who have never taken such training.

I have no problems with corporal punishment.

Actually that cattle prod USC mentioned could be instrumental in my WOC.

some will never learn the proper discipline outside the Dojo. I know I was involved in martial arts for several years...some will behave in the dojo , but outside they will try out their technique on some unfortunate person.
Mostly you are right but some have a bully/evil streak.

So basically, everyone on this thread actually believes that this teacher got their neck broken because they refused to defend themselves because "corporal punishment" is not allowed? lol

He/she got their neck broke because the kid could take him, or surprised them. Anyone whom is attacked has the right to defend themselves. And the kid broke the teacher's neck because somewhere along the line, this kid learned violence. You want something? Hit. Don't like something? Hit.

And not one suggestion on this thread would ever change that.

My boss is leaving after this school year so I'll have to break in another one. The best thing that works for me as a teacher is to handle my own discipline problems. When I am the one handling them then the kids know I don't have to wait for a principal to administer the discipline. I can take immediate action. This principal has allowed me and the other teachers this sort of lee way....I just hope the new guy follows suit.

I have never had a kid get physical with me and only had to physically restrain one kid in a fight in my 20+ years teaching. I pity those who have to deal with this sort of thing on a regular basis.

Not exactly Darla, kids in school have no respect for the teachers becase it is not taught by parents or society, and the teachers are not allowed to instill it in them based on intimidation.

Umm did not watch the video, where did this take place Leaning ? I ask because in rural areas kids still have more respect for teachers than in urban areas.

It was in Philadelphia....and you are correct in your conclusion, IMO. I can, and have taken all of the student body, 7th grade through 12th grade (about 130 kids), on field trips with as few as two assistants. Never a problem.
