I actually think most conservatives on this board and in the conservative media have a real affinity for Trump; they like him, see him as a kindred spirit, and see part of themselves in Trump.

I can see how a conservative could feel like they have no choice but to quietly go into a voting booth vote for Trump - if they genuinely feel Democrats winning would usher in a Kenyan-Marxist dystopian hell hole.

But it takes it to a whole other level, when a conservative spends countless hours on an obscure message board, pouring their heart and soul, every fiber of their being, into defending Trump, supporting him, providing cover for him.

That speaks to a level of worship and affinity that I think creeps out most normal, sentient beings.

Back in 2016 I thought righties liked trump for his entertainment value. He had a TV image and a big mouth, and people enjoyed hearing who and what he would attack. I predicted he wouldn't even get near the nomination because people were wise to him and didn't take him seriously. After all, he didn't have a record to run on and he was nasty, crude and boorish. Boy, was I surprised. As time went on they still supported him despite all his lies, ugly behaviour and ignorance.

IMO it doesn't say much for people who are still taken in by his act after all this time. Intelligence, competence and leadership qualities mean nothing anymore.

When you see those thousands of Republicans at those Trump rallies, the worship, admiration, and acclaim they accord Trump is genuine and real.

I am not buying that most Republicans deplore Trump as a human being.

I think we have enough data at this point to say Republicans literally admire the sleazebag Trump and see him as a soul mate and fellow traveller

I don't think they deplore him as a human being, either. I do think many are embarrassed to admit they support him, so they make excuses for why they do.

It is outside my range of experience.

If I was embarrased by someone, if I found someone to be beneath respect, I would not invest countless precious hours of my life defending them on an obscure message board.

Yeah, well, that situation is only logical to me. We've got 330 million people in the USA. A certain percentage of them have mental issues. It stands to reason that those attention-starved misfits who cannot make many friends in real life will resort to the internet for stimulus. So here they are! And they will get their needed attention any way they can. If that means simply being a nuisance to generate a response, any response, out of others, then that is what they will do.

People who do not get proper nutrition or sleep have fogged minds which are incapable of thinking clearly, or expressing simple respect for fellow humans. If they lean conservative it is only logical that they would be right here on JPP giving liberals all the grief they can muster. The good news is we are under no obligation to give it to them.

Trump worship is widespread in the conservative media and in the halls of congress.

I admit that this might be a phenomena beyond my comprehension, thus leading me to a bogus conclusion. Because I personally cannot imagine defending, supporting, and lying for someone I personally do not like and who does not hold my respect.
