The Dumbing of America

1) Liberal arts majors hardly have more technical skills
2) Most Business degrees have the students take the liberal arts courses as electives for that well rounded aspect. Again, the courses are not bad, they are good electives to take. But getting a Lib Arts degree is not a good idea.

For you maybe but not everyone is you. Like I said. I know to many people who are succesful in these fields. Now for some schmuck who's more interestedin chucking frisbees and gets a liberal arts degree by taking all the Mickey Mouse classes....yea...they're going to have a real tough time but the people I know who have graduated with solid liberal arts degrees from solid programs from places like Oberlin, Davidson, Alfred School of Arts, etc, have done pretty well. Like I said. You get out of it what you put into it.

There are high school dropouts who are billionaires.
That doesn't change who makes more and who's degree is harder.
No it doesn't but some of those perceptions are wrong. Art majors are rated, in general, as being more difficult than business majors. I would agree that in general you find more motiveated people in the STEM and Business majors than you do in the Liberal Arts but my main two points are;

#1. The liberal arts are essential to any well rounded education, provide one with other valuable skills and enhance your life in many ways.
#2. A motivated person can succeed just as well in the Liberal Arts as any other field of endever.

Well rounded my ass
Mommy tells you that when it's obvious engineering is to tough.

I have a 15 year old son who wants to be an engineer. He has already looked into an engineering scholarship offered by Buick for future engineers, as they have a hard time finding qualified help.

He also plays guitar, drums, and piano, and is an avid reader. Why is being STEM smart and liberal arts savvy not the way to be as a human?

Hey I don't disagree with the data and if you're goal in life is to make money then you had either be real motivated if you're going to make a living in a liberal arts field or you had better have other priorities in life. That doesn't change the value or importance of the liberal arts.

Most people go to college for a career that pays.
A liberal arts degree is way better than no degree.
But the facts are clear

Depends. If the drama and theater major goes on to sell real estate, she can make a real killing. If the business major goes on to be the assistant manager of burger king, he is in for a poorer life.

My 20 year old son ahs two friends his age.....one is unemployed and living in his girlfriend's dorm room because he cannot keep a job, and another has started his own accounting business and is clearing close to 100K a year....at 21.

Life is what you make it, boys.

He can be whatever he wants
I'm just arguing liberal arts pays less than engineering and business.
