the jury may have followed florida law, but i question the way the one witness was treated.

as for carter, he too was agreeing with the jury and florida law.

that does not make parts of the trial and application of the law not racist.

i think that the real problem is florida law that allows someone to instigate a confrontation and when the confrontation degenerates into a physical confrontation allows the person that instigates the confrontation to use lethal force in their defense
 
I think the law did not prohibit them from convicting the murderer.

they could have done it and no one would have been surprised.


The lady that spoke on TV is a racist.

that juror is a racist.

:0) Funny how many here now hide behind Jimmy Carter .. who is not at liberty to say what he thinks about this issue anymore than Obama is. Their role .. their only role in this can only be to try to keep the peace no matter what they think.

Do you think Obama agrees with the decision? He hasn't said the jury was racist, the decision was wrong, nor anything about the witness either .. why isn't Thing hiding behind Obama too?

Additionally, Carter also compared the peaceful demonstrations that are taking place today with race riots.

“I’ve seen outbreaks of this before, in California, when the black man was being beat up by the police” Carter told WXIA-TV, alluding to the violence that unfolded in 1992 following the acquittal of the police officers videotaped beating an unarmed Rodney King. “And when Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated. There were terrible race riots. And I think, eventually, no matter how deep the moral and personal feelings might be among African Americans or others, with time passing, they start saying, ‘What can we do about the present and future?’ and put aside their feelings about the past.”

While I wouldn't call Carter a racist, this statement demonstrates that he certainly doesn't know much about black people .. fine southern gentleman that he is. His reference to race riots and his strange thoughts about peaceful demonstrations demonstrate that he's no Dr. King, nor does it appear that he has a clue about how to end the open season on black boys.

I don't intend on spending much time crashing Things pity party. He can whine, cry, and hold hands with right-wingers all he wants. He can hide behind whomever he wants .. but in my opinion, he's a racist.

He's free to call me a racist if it makes him happy. I don't care.

Sanford, Florida is racist .. always has been. No blacks on the jury.

The good news about racism today .. even racists run from it.

That's absolutely true. But they all hide behind a racist verdict.

The good news is the next stage of this will play out at the ballot box. I had predicted that republicans would regain the Senate in the midterms, but I'm not so sure about that anymore. Many people are chomping at the bit to go after republicans because of this. I will still vote 3rd party .. but not if there is any possibility that a republican win.

Republican hate of African-Americans is on full display on the world stage .. and if antagonizing blacks is their goal, they've been very good at it.

if the dims want to fight the repug's racist voter restriction laws, they need to start organizing the black and Hispanic/Latino voters or any other voters they are trying block to get ids and get out and vote. the dims need to organize, organize and organize

I honestly don't know what happened to Onceler. I just read your post above about the whole thing. You know my opinion about him, which i restated several times (not that that was enough). But the thing is, I would never tell you or anyone else that a white guy wasn't racist. I have been told that so many times by men about other men when I say that a man is sexist and even explain why. And I know when I see sexism. This is so similar IMO.

First of all, it's between you and him (that particular part), but most importantly, I just listen to what you are saying. I am listening. I learned a lot by doing that in my life. I still think he's just clueless and self-involved, but what do I know. :)
