The Silurian hypothesis

Okay, I was thinking of extensive deposits of petrified wood like the Petrified Forest.

I am sure you can find individual samples of petrified wood in several part of the world.
You can find extensive deposits of it worldwide. That's why it can be made into furniture.

About 200 million years old.
Awesome, Terry. Thank you for your evidence there was no intelligent life 200 million years ago.

I have some petrified wood from that area. It's pretty cool. I passed through the Petrified National Forest in 1980.

Okay, I was thinking of extensive deposits and outcrops of petrified wood like the Petrified Forest.

I am sure you can find individual discrete samples of petrified wood in several part of the world. Gold deposits are not really rare by that standard either.
Plants have been around a lot longer than humans.

As stated above, I've driven through the national forest. Pretty cool. lots of rock hound stores. LOL

Terry, if you are going to base your study of hypothesized ancient civilizations on a study of petrified wood, I do not think you will get funding for that kind of research.

Extensive deposits and outcrops of petrified wood suitable for field research into ancient hominds just aren't that common around the globe, and certainly not widespread enough to make enough representative samples to base a conclusion on.

Now, if you want to make a coaster for your teacup, I am sure there is more than enough individual, discreate samples of petrified wood around that can be polished up and used in the kitchen.
