The socialist programs in the U.S.

A huge fraction of the blockbuster drugs developed in the US are done using NIH funding meaning they are developed on tax payer dollars. Unfortunately we then license that tech to pharma companies who then charge astronomical costs to cover "R&D" (which, of course, is often funded by the NIH already).

The socialism part works quite well. It's when Capitalists get ahold of it that they double dip and we end up paying more than anyone else.

So some is good, some is tolerable, so full on commie must be great.
:smh:

See? That's the problem. No one is advocating for full on communism. You right wingers suffer a severe bias of black and white thinking.

In point of fact YOU have NEVER lived in a true free market country here in the US. The last time we didn't allow the stain of "socialism" on us was the Gilded Age. Folks like you didn't fare so well back in those days.

Okay, so the FDA / USDA are a good thing. The Bureau of Weights and Measures is too and assigned by the Constitution. That the nation has uniform standards on things isn't a bad thing. On the other hand, there is ZERO need for a cabinet position for Housing and Urban development, Education, Health and Human Services, Labor (part of Commerce so it's a duplicate), Veteran's Affairs (part of Defense), and Labor. They are all unnecessary at the federal level.

Socialism requires public (government) ownership.

are public restrooms "socialist".......how about public schools?......the constitution provides that the state carries the burden of protecting the nation from its enemies........does that make the army "socialism"......a national currency?...........the Congress and White House?......the government owns the Library of Congress.......it owns the original copy of the Constitution.......is that "socialism"?...........

complete your statement......"socialism" is government ownership of WHAT?.........I know you know the answer.......state it!.....

so lets carry it the next step forward........when the government wanted the vaccine for the corona virus and let a number of companies develop and sell it for a profit was that socialism?.......

Pretty close to all of them.

Amber alerts- unnecessary
Amtrack - privatize it
Public beaches - unnecessary
Public busing - privatize it
The CIA - part of defense not socialist
Federal student loans - privatize it
The court system - not socialist
Dams - privatize those
Public defenders - unnecessary
Disability insurance - privatize it
Dept of Energy - unnecessary get rid of it

I could go through the whole list, but it's not really necessary. Most of what's on it could be done away with, privatized, or isn't a "Socialist" function of government.

And how ignorant does one have to be to think that privatization would NOT result in MANY additional bills in the mail on all the items you list (plus taxes)?

Public defenders are for those who cannot afford a lawyer, genius? Are you wealthy enough to have one on retainer?

Where the hell have you been regarding the debacle that is the privatized student loan system? Do your homework regarding the lawsuits put against many and why.

So you're willing to pay new fees just to go to the beach in your state? Good luck with that.

AMTRAK is a private company that applies and gets gov't subsidy and such.

I could go on, but the readers get the message...YOU are living in a willfully ignorant delusion.

That's different from a general public alert system that notifies the public at random that a child is missing. You are notifying upwards of millions about something all but a few, already involved for the most part, will never get involved in.

No, public defenders came about because poor defendants couldn't afford a lawyer and our legal system said they were entitled to one. The primary reason they couldn't afford one is the legal system is a closed shop one that drives the price of doing business in it up dramatically.

That would be the EPA, not the DoE. The Department of Energy doesn't make regulations on pollution.

you IDIOT! Do your homework as to goes down with child trafficking....or how fast kids in domestic fights are snatched across state lines by an irate parent. Are you going to deny the success of America's Most Wanted? Jeez, sometimes you can be so absurd that being drunk is no excuse.

You just contradicted yourself regarding public defenders....you beautifully explained why we need them. :palm:

Also, FYI:

"The purpose of them is to provide the best service "WHILE DELIVERING THE SAME SERVICE TO EVERY ONE." Yes, you're right Aristotle ! Because that means we all get to end up with the same life outcomes; or as Kamala put it, we all get to "end up at the same place". Right? That's called the principle of "EQUITY", Anchovies. Equity is a core tenet of communism. I saw it fully implemented, - up close and personal - during my visits to the DDR (Communist East Germany) when I visited East Berlin in the mid-1980's. "Equity" worked like a charm in the DDR, the government made sure that everyone ended up at the same place; the only problem was that that place was called "MISERY" not "UTOPIA."

Who is entitled to better government services in America...

(1) A drug-fucked, Black gang-banger from the 'hood in Compton ?

or

(2) A married father, who is an honest, hard-working, law-abiding, community-spirited, White working - class American man?

Dachshund - the Wonder Hound

DLM....Dachshund Lives Matter !

You don't even live here, Nazi boy. If you did, then you would know how stupid you come off, because right wing clowns like you would be the first one's to bitch about higher prices and the inability to hold private corporations accountable, much less be legally defended from them.

Corporations that screw you over are run by jokers who look JUST LIKE YOU.

Idiot.

Socialism is an economic system. Economics defines socialism as public ownership of the means of production and distribution (usually referring to major industries).

Public schools and national defense do not produce and distribute products and services. In trying to characterize different economic systems we have to only use those features that are different. Every nation provides national defense through government--so, if we call that socialist that does not distinguish one type of system from another.

Capitalism is the best system we have for the development and marketing of consumer products.

National parks, health care, highways, research science, education, social security shouldn't be left strictly to the vagaries of the profit motive.

Excellent post
