The socialist programs in the U.S.

excellent.......then we agree the OP is an idiot.....

Unfortunately, both sides have distorted socialism to mean governmental social programs.

The right accuses Democrats of "socialism" (or even Communism) when it involves no government ownership of production and the left calls nations with expansive social welfare programs socialist while those same nations tell the left they are not socialist but capitalist.

Capitalism is the best system we have for the development and marketing of consumer products.

National parks, health care, highways, research science, education, social security shouldn't be left strictly to the vagaries of the profit motive.

Taxes through Capitalism is what pays for all the bolded. As well as everything else in this country. You brain dead fucking democrat.

67% of health care is paid by private health insurance, not taxes.

Not the rest of it. Nor every other thing this country puts out. Not one fucking thing.

Right, not the rest of it. That is why I posted 67% of health care is paid by private health insurance--2/3 of it.

As of 2013 the federal government no longer funds a majority of basic research. It is about 44% down from 70% in the 1960's.

The "profit motive" (money) is very much a factor in government funding and operation of public agencies. Colleges have many methods to pass students because the more that are retained the more money the college receives. Some schools even have set averages or quotas for grade distribution.
